Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth. 

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Manager, Geopolitical Risk.

Principal Responsibilities

In this role you will

  • Develop an approach to geopolitical risk management which supports in the identification, mitigation, and management of geopolitical risk across HSBC
  • Incorporate the geopolitical risk management approach within HSBC’s Risk Management Framework and drive the embedding of this throughout both 1LOD and 2LOD and into the regions as required
  • Report upon and escalate key emerging risks, providing oversight of issues and events
  • Identify key geopolitical risk events and secular geopolitical trends and produce high quality strategic analysis on what those mean for HSBC
  • Facilitate Group-wide information sharing on geopolitical risk issues
  • Champion the integration of the geopolitical risk team into the Group Reputational, Climate & Sustainability Risk and Enterprise Risk Management functions. Contribute to external disclosures
  • Develop close working relationships with a broad set of key internal stakeholders at all levels across the Group. Provide advice, briefing and support to senior leaders and other internal stakeholders as required
  • Help drive the evolving Environmental, Social and Governance Risk agenda, working with other stakeholders in the development of, and execution of, activities aligned with the identification and mitigation of relevant risks relating to HSBC’s activities and portfolios
Requirements

To be successful you will need

  • A comprehensive and proven understanding geopolitical risk with strong analytical skills to grasp, consolidate and distil diverse and complex sources and ranges of information
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate often complex, controversial, and subjective issues to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proven understanding and experience of working with / leading key projects across 1LOD and 2LOD
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with proven experience in dealing across Risk Function, Group Infrastructure and Business lines
  • The ability to effectively manage multiple workstreams and deliverables, working with and reporting to Senior Management. High degree of gravitas, credibility, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Sets the pace and operating rhythm, driving a culture of achievement and ensures pace by identifying and removing barriers to project success. Promotes pace and energy within the team and leads by example
