What you'll do?

• Relating to ESG Commitments and Oversight, the successful candidate will support the Global Head of Sustainability Risk Management and Framework to discharge their responsibilities in respect of second line risk stewardship and oversight of sustainability risks defined in HSBC’s risk management framework, specifically:

1.    Support Global Business and Global Functions in conducting risk and control assessments for their specific sustainability related risks.
2.    Define and monitor key metrics, escalation protocol and required analysis in case of risk appetite and tolerance breaches.
3.    Undertaking review and challenge of risk events and issues, thematic assurance reviews of 1LoD activities
4.    Drive trigger event analysis and emerging risk profile for key sustainability areas.

• Support the Global Head of Sustainability Risk Management and Framework with key updates on risk exposure, risk map creation, including ensuring that high quality papers are prepared and presented to relevant risk committees.
• Lead and run focused workstreams / projects on Sustainability specific risk issues as required including audit or other deliverables.
• Provide advice and support delivery of Sustainability specific change items, governance and audit actions as required.
• Engage and drive collaboration with other risk taxonomies on need basis and support with policy creation and update activities.
• Relating to Sustainability Risk Management Framework Embedding, the successful candidate will support the Global Head of Sustainability Risk Management and Framework 
• their responsibilities in respect to embedding Sustainability within HSBCs Risk Management Framework:
  1. Be a Sustainability SME for the creation and embedding of Sustainability Risk within our Risk Management Framework, which will involve working closely with Risk Functions, Chief Control Officers, the Climate Risk Programme and Risk and Compliance Transformation.
  2. This will entail where relevant, the development, ongoing enhancement and embedding of a Sustainability Risk scenarios, a specific RTCL for Sustainability Risk, policies, processes, training, and education throughout both 1LOD and 2LOD.
  3. Identify, document, and escalate gaps within our Risk Management Framework, in respect, to how Sustainability Risk is managed.

What you will need to succeed in this role?

• A comprehensive and proven understanding of risk management framework and risk stewardship accountabilities and responsibilities 
• A thorough understanding of broader sustainability topic and key aspects on Net Zero requirements including understanding of regulatory landscape.
• Strong analytical skills to grasp, consolidate and distil diverse and complex sources and ranges of information.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate often complex, controversial, and subjective issues to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Proven understanding and experience of working with / leading risk enablement activities across 1LOD and 2LOD.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with proven experience in dealing across Risk Function, Transformation and Business lines.
• The ability to effectively manage multiple workstreams and deliverables, working with and reporting to Senior Management.
• High degree of gravitas, credibility, and strong interpersonal skills – ability to represent Sustainability Risk across HSBC and with key investors, regulators, NGOs and other third parties.
• Sets the pace and operating rhythm, driving a culture of achievement and ensures pace by identifying and removing barriers to success.
• Promotes pace and energy within the team and leads by example.
