We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Risk Officer.

The role provides Risk leadership in this high-profile role for the UK bank covering a number of key sectors/sub-sectors. They engage with various senior stakeholders across different regions, product teams and broader HSBC group management. They get opportunity to approve a broad spectrum of credit requests (including, but not limited to, lending, trade, global markets, and cash management) within a sizeable, delegated credit approval authority. This is a great opportunity to work with a team of proven and highly experienced risk officers with a deep knowledge of policies, procedures and the industries covered. They also will assess and manage a variety of different risks (credit, reputational, market, interest rate, industry, etc) across a variety of different sectors and specific client situations.

In this role, you will:

•    Assist HBUK to achieve its strategic growth priorities for the wholesale business whilst maintaining a strong and sustainable credit risk profile.
•    Manage, and provide guidance/training to, a small team of Risk approvers covering the Industrial/Manufacturing, Transportation, Chemicals and Metals & Mining industry sectors for the UK middle market and large corporate business.
•    Provide direction to relationship teams and product partners on risk appetite, and subsequently evaluate, recommend and approve transactions/ annual reviews within sizeable delegated credit approval authority.
•    Be responsible for implementing Risk credit risk policies, procedures and standards, and subsequently monitor, manage and minimise credit losses across the scope of responsibility. This extends to ensuring all regulated requirements are adhered to as ‘business as usual’
•    Be responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks and raising/resolving issues in an expeditious and comprehensive manner.
•    Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
•    Provide overviews, monitoring, reporting and presentations for various internal/external purposes on industries managed. This will include presenting to a variety of different stakeholders and regulators.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

•    Understand and champion a strong risk culture in all activities and interactions.
•    Demonstrate strong commercial credit skills, not only on a transactional basis but also credit process management and be able to ensure consistent application of the same across the team he/she/they will lead.
•    General knowledge of legal, accounting, and regulatory requirements with a proven ability to track, and determine the impact of, developments in the industries covered.
•    Well-rounded banking background particularly for corporate banking credit with a good understanding of products, services and operational aspects related to the same.
•    Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with an ability to positively engage with various internal/external stakeholders in a variety of different circumstances.
•    Proven management and leadership skills with an ability to maintain a strong and balanced risk compass (individually and across the broader team).
