The Sr. Associate Director, Software Engineering Specialist will work closely with CTO enablement Infrastructure department, IKP (Internal Kubernetes Platform) team in Shanghai, to ensure that CTO solutions are aligned with the bank's overall strategy, and that the market’s CTO needs are met. This will require an understanding and close interaction with regulators along with business stakeholders in the market. The CTO enablement Infrastructure department supports China IT open platform infrastructure in three local datacenters, providing end to end support not only on strong capability but also resilience to fulfill China business growth.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Kubernetes Operations Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for maintaining mission-critical systems running on Kubernetes clusters, ensuring their stability, high availability, and performance. This role involves end-to-end management of Kubernetes clusters and related ecosystem components, including installation, upgrades, maintenance, and providing 24/7 first-line support. You will also deliver DevOps support to application teams.
The person in this role will be commercially astute, an excellent communicator and able to partner strongly with executive level IT and business stakeholders (network team, infra team, users, etc.) and regulators. They will work with business leaders to define technology strategies, create new solutions and drive a culture of continuous improvement. They will also be partnering with other COO and IT counterparts, at various executive levels of the organization including regional and in-country leadership (CEO, COO, CIO).
What you’ll do:
- Maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters and related ecosystem components (e.g., Harbor, Istio, Nginx Controller, Portworx, etc.).
- Provide 24/7 first-line operational support for critical production systems.
- Ensure system stability, high availability, and performance for all managed environments.
- Support application teams with DevOps best practices and tooling.
- Automate operational tasks using scripting languages and automation tools (e.g., Shell, Python, Ansible).
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve incidents independently, including issues related to Linux OS, storage, networking, firmware, and data center infrastructure.
- Collaborate effectively with global teams and vendors in English.
- Please be noted that this position carries potential consequence management from regulator in case of significant system outage lead to business impact or violation of regulations
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in Kubernetes platform operations, including deployment, scaling, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of containerization technologies and cloud-native architectures, with experience in managing 24/7 operations teams and handling mission-critical systems and excellent communication skills to interact with users, regulators, and vendors effectively, and Experience in the banking or financial services industry.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with Kafka, IKP, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for IT systems.
- Certification in Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) or related technologies.
- Experience in managing vendor relationships and contracts.
