  • The Responsible Investment (‘RI’) team within HSBC Asset Management sits within the investments function and leads the firm’s ESG and Sustainable Investing platform.  The RI team is responsible for a wide range of activities including investment stewardship, development of ESG and Sustainable Investing products, development of the research and integration platform to support investment as well as leading on other important programmatic/policy initiatives.  The stewardship team leads on engagement with issuers on sustainability issues as well as proxy voting at shareholder meetings, working closely with investment teams.  The team plays a pivotal role in delivering HSBC AM’s Stewardship Plan and implementing the Global Voting Guidelines, whilst also supporting client teams on responding to client queries and reporting on our stewardship activities.

What you’ll do:

  • Voting Analysis and Engagement Preparation: Provide research and analysis to support team members with proxy voting decisions and engagements with companies.
  • Thematic Engagement Support: Help project manage engagement activities, including documentation/record-keeping support and management of the engagement calendar and pipeline.
  • Peer Analysis and Review: Perform peer analysis and carry out regular reviews of stewardship activities within the asset management industry.
  • Stakeholder coordination: Facilitate stakeholder coordination for company engagements and proxy voting; collaborate with other RI team members as needed to address client and investment team requirements.
  • Case Study Management: Assist in indexing and maintaining engagement case studies.
  • Procedure Documentation: Maintain the stewardship section of the RI team’s Desk Procedure Manual.
  • Committee and Reporting Support: Assist in preparing materials for the Stewardship Committee and stakeholder reporting, including weekly voting reports.
  • Client Query Liaison: Act as the primary contact for client queries escalated to the stewardship team.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • A strong interest in and understanding of sustainability and corporate governance issues.
  • Experience of working in the field of ESG and sustainability.  
  • Experience of proxy voting is preferred but not a pre-requisite.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to absorb and digest large amount of complex information from multiple sources.   
  • Strong ability to apply good judgement and pay attention to detail.
  • Highly organised and experienced in planning workloads against tight timelines.
  • Strong project management skills, managing the prioritisation of competing demands from different stakeholders across different jurisdictions within tight timeframes.
  • Self-motivated/starter and learner with strong interest in sustainable investing. 
  • Enjoy working as part of a team, collaborating with different stakeholders.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
