HSBC Group Chief Operating Office (GCOO) is a pivotal part of the Group, providing essential operational and technical support to our global businesses and helping improve customer service and efficiency. Transformation Services combines global expertise and technology to help keep us ahead of the competition.

Transformation Services is part of the GCOO, supporting the transformation agenda by accelerating and delivering effective change globally, with capabilities across consulting, programme/project management, business analysis and portfolio management.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as a Strategic Change Director.

What you’ll do:

  • The purpose of the Strategic Change Director is to:
    • Successfully deliver large scale complex change from design to delivery including for large technological, regulatory programmes.
    • Support & lead the change delivery outcomes for international markets in Asia
    • Engage on ad-hoc requests and projects for Transformation Services function. 
  • The Strategic Change Director needs to be an energized, ambitious, and high performing change leader who operates at the highest levels of professional capability in the banking or professional services industries:
    • Driven - demonstrate a proactive professional service ethic, and use it to drive results.
    • Smart - be a fast-learning problem solver who is comfortable with ambiguity.
    • Credible - display high EQ and excellent communication skills, able to navigate a complex organisation, develop domain knowledge and influence stakeholders.
    • Skilled - have broad mastery of end-to-end change management skills, in particular, Agile.
  • The role holder is expected to be a ‘trusted advisor’ to senior executive leaders across HSBC, with whom they are partnered by identifying opportunities, constructively challenging conventional thinking, ensuring the customer and colleague outcomes shape the design, and then helping to prioritise and drive the execution of their change needs with a focus on delivering the desired customer, colleague, operational, and regulatory / financial outcomes.
  • The role holder is accountable for making complex HSBC-wide decisions, delivering high value financial improvement initiatives or regulatory outcomes, and creating an environment for development and capability uplift within the Transformation team.
  • They will support the Global and Regional Head of GCOO Transformation Services in creating and leading a world class change organisation which is recognised as market leading.
  • The role holder will have the following responsibilities:
    • Drive key programmes and both global and regional initiatives in line with the objectives and priorities of the function, including leading large technological and regulatory programmes.
    • Engage with the International Markets Chief Operating Officers to support on their change delivery needs, resource supply and change outcomes aligned to the Change Framework.
    • Engage into ad-hoc priority requests, projects for the function.
  • The role holder will need to be conversant with all facets of the change process including co-creating business cases and justification for initiatives, initiation of change, designing an approach and plan, designing the solution and its impact on the operating model, programme management, business analysis, change adoption and implementation needs, as well as ensuring outcomes and benefits materialize. 
  • They will need to be well informed about emerging technology and innovation, and how this can be applied to solve challenges and improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the bank, and customer and colleague experience.
  • The role holder is accountable for ensuring there are the right skills to deliver in their teams, and that the performance of our strategic partners meets the necessary standards to shape and deliver the required change outcomes. They will be responsible for managing costs of change, headcount, risks and issues. 
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Knowledge:

  • Outstanding knowledge of end-to-end change disciplines – functionally, operationally and financially.
  • A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
  • Very strong knowledge of the external environment – regulatory, political, competitors, innovation etc.
  • Outstanding understanding of HSBC Group structures, values, behaviours, processes, and objectives.
  • Good working knowledge of functional area in an operational or consulting capacity.

Experience:

  • Proven ability in successfully identifying, designing and implementing large-scale, complex global / regional change initiatives.
  • Proven experience of operating iterative delivery techniques at scale.
  • Proven experience of positive, challenging interactions with Senior Executives and stakeholders within ASP and in the Group.
  • Proven ability in working across multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural diverse work environments.
  • Strong analytical background and proven ability in analytical rigor, including being able to contextualize data into business activities and conclusions.
  • Experience in leading large complex global technological/ regulatory programmes will be an added advantage.
  • People leadership capabilities and experience in managing large teams.
  • Evidence of successfully managing financial plans.
  • Successful experience in developing and retaining critical talent and building an effective leadership team.

Capabilities:

  • Outstanding relationship management and influencing skills – up to Board level.
  • The ability to recognise structural issues within the organisation, functional interdependencies, and cross-silo redundancies.
  • The ability to apply architectural principles to business solutions.
  • The ability to visualise and create high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture.
  • Experience modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels.
  • High level of drive and motivation to ensure successful delivery of complex transformational initiatives.
  • Ability to leverage resources available to achieve goals.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning skills to cope with multiple large-scale responsibilities.

Qualifications and Accreditations:

  • Degree in related field or commensurate practical experience.
  • Industry recognized technical certifications i.e. PMP, CBAP, MSP, Change Management, ACP (Optional), Master Black Belt – Six Sigma (Optional), TOGAF (Optional).
