As part of the Finance Operations team, we are primarily responsible for consolidation, analytical reviews, preparation of external financial statements at a legal entity and regional level and ensuring the accounts are timely filed with the regulatory authorities.

The Opportunity:

  • The process covers the delivery of HBEU regulatory reports and also regulatory policy interpretation, change implementation and process controls & governance to ensure a robust framework and management supervision and oversight for regulatory reporting.

What you’ll do:

Business Impact

The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Reporting operations (IFRS, FINREP and SEC) for HBEU. The role will be a key support to the Head of Financial Reporting & Head of Reporting ops, HBEU in managing the delivery as well playing active role in various transformation projects, and ensuring the strong control framework for HBEU Financial reporting team.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Interpreting new regulatory financial reporting requirements in partnership with the Global reporting developments, design and policy teams, and implement processes necessary to deliver.
  • Perform analytical review (in line with IFRS, FINREP and SEC) and provide assurance on the quality and accuracy of data to be used for preparation and publication of Financial Statements and associated disclosures. The process involves performing appropriate analysis and logical checks to ensure there is reasonableness and consistency in data submissions, as also to identify any material errors and omissions.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, such as CFO, Financial controller, the auditors, Finance Management and Company Directors, Tax, Finance teams, Legal, Strategy, HR, Company Secretary.
  • Preparing & presenting the Board documentation and the companies accounts (cleared by auditors) to the Board of Directors for approval & submission to the Companies House within the timelines.
  • End to end accountability for Reporting production and review with senior management.
  • Managing the audit process for financial statements through coordination with audit partners and senior managers. Monitoring any audit issues arising and managing process for resolution providing support and guidance to Finance teams for the resolution of issues or escalation for technical guidance.
  • Managing/preparing specific documentation required by Auditors for completion of their audit work e.g. Going concern assessments, impairment assessments, Letters of Support, management representation letter.
  • Ensuring documents are tagged using the latest taxonomy required for iXBRL tagging and filed with the regulatory authorities.
  • Own the Reporting issues and drive the closure with stakeholders
  • Strong control environment (including SoX controls) and process governance to ensure regulatory demands are met and appropriate documentation is maintained
  • Deliver on the standardisation and simplification initiatives through process synergies and realisation of cost saves through process re-engineering
  • People leadership responsibilities- drive the HSBC work culture and values, build talent.
  • Provide leadership to the reporting team through ongoing engagement, appropriate training, coaching interventions and facilitating transparent communication with stakeholders.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Liaise with Entity controllers, Tax team, Auditors and Company Secretaries to ensure that all the deliverables on Statutory reporting is met on time.
  • Collaborate across key stakeholders including Financial Accounting, Credit Risk, GBM, ALCM, Financial Controller team and Global Finance Change.
  • Understand stakeholders' objectives, direction, priorities and challenges, managing and addressing concerns and objections.
  • Escalate risks and issues in a timely manner
  • Regular, timely and effective communication with all stakeholders

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Effective communication & collaboration with the team members on organization strategy and goals required for the respective roles and responsibilities
  • Constructive feedback to the manager to achieve objectives, efficiency in operations and maintain work-life balance.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Continually assess operational risks inherent in the processes, taking account of changing procedures, staff movements, legal and regulatory requirements, management restructures, and impact of new technology.
  • Effectively drive and manage change, plan business contingency and achieve cross-training
  • Ensure that there is full compliance with the Global Finance FIM, Internal Control and Objectives
  • Contribute to implementation of effective and efficient process and controls.
  • Pro-active approach to process improvement and query resolution
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Strong financial reporting operations background with a financial institution with a good understanding of the accounting environment and the requirements (IFRS and EBA/PRA)
  • Experience in a controllership role including designing and maintaining control frameworks for high risk processes and a good understanding of proper control environments
  • Understanding complex accounting / reporting systems and data flows and ensuring reporting accuracy
  • Confident to work effectively with stakeholders across the bank, driving and influencing outcomes to deliver activities on time and to progressively improve the efficiency of processes over the longer term.
  • Coordination with multiple data sources and owners to ensure consistency of data across systems
  • Understanding the regulatory environment, guidelines and new developments to assess impact on HSBC and the processes and implementing changes

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • A professional accounting qualification or management degree in Finance with relevant experience
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office suite of products, particularly working with MS Excel, large database files, macros and process automation.
  • Good analytical skills, an eye for detail and a drive for quality statistical skills to study trends, understand and to interpret numeric information.
  • Good communication skills – both written and verbal and ability to engage and collaborate across geographical boundaries.
  • Operations management including process governance and stakeholder management
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to frequent and multiple changes
