The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as AVP - Model Developer, GPB&W Models.

Role Purpose:

The Product Governance team in IWS carries out management and oversight of the Global Product Governance Framework, Policy, and Procedures across GPB&W products, investment services and credit solutions. The purpose of this role is to support the product governance framework that supports all products and services (advisory, discretionary and execution only; banking, credit and insurance) offered globally by IWS.

What you’ll do:

Principal Accountabilities:  Key activities and decision-making areas

  • Support the management of the IWS Global Product Governance Framework, ensuring it remains in line with Group and local regulatory requirements.
  • Ongoing management of the IWS Global Product Committee (GPC) which oversees both Private Banking and Wealth business products and services for the Global Head of IWS.
  • Work in partnership with all Product Management teams to ensure that the local/regional Product Oversight Committees are structured and conducted in accordance with the defined global product governance framework.
  • Develop and enhance IWS Global Product Governance due diligence templates used by global and local teams.
  • Prevent revenue leakage by strengthening robust procedures to manage negotiated pricing surrounding discounting.
  • Supervise requests made by the regulator. Work with industry panels to keep abreast of trends in pricing, changes in regulation, help form HSBC’s position on emerging topics and ensure HSBC’s views are considered in consultations and other rule-making processes in countries as appropriate.
  • Oversight responsibility for all GPC submissions, GPC secretarial duties, ensuring timely submissions, effective agenda management and global communication process.
  • Ensuring (where possible) globally consistent Product Governance Frameworks and Product Oversight Committee desk procedures to ensure maximum process efficiencies to assist timely product marketing
  • Ensuring that all arrangements that support IWS products and services are controlled and monitored centrally while ensuring that local requirements are met without duplication.
  • Establish a Continuous Monitoring programme for in scope products, and manage on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage the IWS Product Governance desk procedures and IWS guidance documents ensuring effective communication regarding changes and updates.
  • Oversee management of all GPC MI which will include global tracking of all Post Implementation Reviews (PIR), Ongoing Product Reviews (OPR), Continuous Monitoring data and tracking of PIR and OPR findings ensuring effective local action to close.
  • Oversee the management and control of Global and Local Product Inventories. 
  • Coordinate and resolve actions related to issues raised at the GPC, or any other issues related to products distributed by IWS.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Working collaboratively with all Stakeholders (IWS Compliance, Legal, Risk, Chief Control Office (CCO) Senior Management and Group Procurement) to ensure all governance arrangements and oversight frameworks meet regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Work closely with Regulatory Compliance to ensure that IWS is compliant with existing laws and regulations and also is able to implement requirements of emerging regulations in a timely manner. Role should also work with Regulatory Compliance to develop IWS policies which uphold Regulatory expectations, protect the Bank and ensure consistent application of controls.
  • Streamlining the product approval process to achieve the correct balance between distribution of the right products for our clients, effective time to market and effective product management/governance.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Extensive working experience in mid/senior role at retail or private bank investment product governance.
  • University degree in Business, Economics or related banking disciplines. Advanced Degree (Masters) or Professional qualification (CA, CFA) is preferred.
  • Experience of managing Product Governance Frameworks in an investment related business is preferred.
  • An understanding of investment, banking, credit and insurance products and services.
  • Getting results through effective management of processes; possess capacity to define problems and find effective solutions; ability to relate to people at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Practical experience working alongside global product/business management teams.
  • Strict deadline management with project management discipline.
  • Ability to work independently and manage business as usual tasks while also progressing elements of various projects.
  • Confident presenter, able to present complex topics to stakeholders at all management levels.
  • Effective presentation, interpersonal, negotiation, communication and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of authoring policies, standards, governance lifecycle process, frameworks, and Target Operating models.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Prior experience in Private Banking or Wealth Management is preferred.
  • Ability to guide a global business and owners in the best interests of the bank.
  • Exhibit physical and mental endurance to study paper, author papers and publish regulatory compliant documentation.
  • Strong and proven leader to develop and nurture stakeholder relationships with Regulators, regional teams and Audit.
  • Excellent relationship management and diplomacy skills, ability to communicate, influence and negotiate effectively.
  • Skilled decision maker, able to stand firm and show necessary flexibility where required.
