  • The risk steward for this role will support Global Head of Management Office for Global and EMEA Head of Markets Compliance for EMEA under MSS RC. The purpose of the role is to own internal MSS RC reporting process globally, engage with GCB3+ on day-to-day basis.
  • MSS RC is a complex and diverse organisation with product offerings across Markets, Securities Services and Research, supported by MSS Operations. The organisation operates in a highly-regulated environment with key regulators across the globe.

The Opportunity:

  • Lead all governance and reporting activities globally for MSS RC, including managing existing CoE governance and reporting FTE. This includes bi-weekly reporting, preparing and managing senior leadership meetings, managing and drafting all MSS RC governance submissions to senior forums.
  • Lead risk stewardship governance over MSS Transformation projects, programmes and initiatives. This includes regularly engaging with the business line, MSS RC and Group Compliance to ensure MSS RC has programme and portfolio level oversight of first line activities.
  • Oversee other governance and reporting activities, including coordinating all global Policy and Procedure reviews within MSS RC, Risk Appetite Statements and metrics, and other key activities.
  • Manage senior relationships within MSS RC, the wider Compliance function, including Group Compliance COO/CAO colleagues globally to influence and deliver key objectives.

Impact on the Business:

  • Ensure proactive approach is taken to identification of Compliance risk within countries/ regions and potential impacts on HSBC in close cooperation with members of the regional/ country Compliance/ COO functions
  • Ensure proactive approach is taken to identification of Compliance risk change and potential impacts on Business Model in the region/ country
  • Development (and continuous review for appropriateness) of control framework to monitor Compliance developments impacting the business lines in region
  • Ensure timely flow of accurate Management Information from relevant stakeholders / teams
  • Advocates for consistent controls as part of review of monitoring plans across all lines of business.
  • Escalate compliance risks that may have implications on other HSBC Businesses and Functions globally

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders both inside and outside of Compliance at a Global, Regional and Country level
  • Provide wider support and work collaboratively with all members of the Compliance function.
  • Respond to requests for information from teams both inside and outside of Compliance; communicate responses in timely, consistent manner
  • Ensure timely and proper escalation of any issues
  • Demonstrate active participation and good attendance in Committee meetings and business team meetings.
  • Advises as required business management and the CCO function to ensure that appropriate compliance programs, policies, procedures, and other controls are in place and operating effectively and satisfy supervisory obligations.
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Knowledge:

  • A good understanding of the MSS business – products, processes, risks etc.
  • A good understanding of the global regulatory environment that the MSS business operates under.

Skillset:

  • Significant governance experience at a senior level, including managing senior stakeholders and leading teams.
  • Must have excellent paper/report writing skills including ability to summarise and present key messages to senior leadership.
  • Extremely organised and proactive.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with experience of interacting with senior and executive level staff.
  • Ability to develop approaches and deliver on resultant actions / projects / initiatives to achieve the goals
  • Experience designing and implementing global operating models
  • Proactively identify, design, deliver and implement enhancements to working practices within MSS Compliance.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Keeping abreast of changing regulatory developments and anticipating changes.
  • To work with the business on high profile projects to ensure that the regulatory demands of those projects are met.
  • To assist the Compliance heads in ensuring that MSS meet both Group and external legal and regulatory requirements.
  • To learn and put into effect the requirements of the Compliance Functional Instruction Manual (FIM)
  • Work within the Operational Risk parameters of  MSS Compliance
  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Understand, keep up to date and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the Markets and Securities Services business
