Department Profile:
The core focus of the role is to develop HSBC’s business with clients in the portfolio. The nature of FIG sector is such that both credit limits and operational funds flows are substantial, as are potential risks. Competition revolves around credit capacity, pricing, liquidity, product superiority and service quality. Clients maintain relationships with multiple banks which adds an additional pressure on marketing efforts. Delivery is made more difficult in Asia given the diversity arising from a lack of established market practices, system weaknesses, and relatively immature regulatory/legal environments.
Role Purpose:
• Independently handle day-to-day relationship management and operational requirements of clients.
• Approve (within delegated limits) or recommends for approval by higher authority, new facility proposals and reviews.
• Ensure the Group's exposure to risk within the client portfolio and associated systemic risks are appropriately monitored and controlled.
• Provide direction and guidance to team members (including CMs / CAU) and work closely with FIG executives in the region and globally.
• Develop and implement innovative financial and service solutions for the client portfolio through frequent coordination between the Group's business units and subsidiaries.
• Provide high quality management information to keep senior management briefed on high level issues and market trends.
• Provide input to FIG management on opportunities for HSBC within the client portfolio.
• Develop and coordinate relationships within the FIG segment with a view to
a) maximize revenues of HSBC Group from these relationships,
b) increasing market penetration and share of wallet in the target sector(s).
• The role covers client business in the Japan market, and could include regional coverage responsibility
• Support Senior Coverage Banker / Head of FIG in covering larger and more complex FIG relationships.
Principal Accountabilities:
Impact on the Business
• Coordinate origination and execution of activities across the spectrum of Global Banking & Markets products/service.
• Build the Global Banking franchise value/reputation in the market.
• Drive achievement against targets for revenue generation, product alignment, customer satisfaction and cost containment.
• Identify event driven opportunities on an opportunistic basis, bringing in sector/country expertise as appropriate.
• Aggressively grow HSBC’s share of client wallet involving product specialists to ensure product capabilities are in line with client/sector requirements
• Actively seek to maximise relationship returns from both existing & prospective clients.
• Actively coordinate and promote local as well as regional initiatives.
Customers / Stakeholders
• Develop and maintain ‘Trusted Advisor’ relationship and access at key decision maker level for assigned current and target clients.
• Undertake all required activities as directed by line manager or as agreed in annual objectives in support of growing the FIG business.
• Work closely with Product Partners and FIG team in region and globally.

• Combine client relationship management with strong risk assessment and management capabilities ensuring the required credit quality & requisite returns on risk.
• Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved.
• Minimise and control risks to the Group.
• Actively manage the Financial Crime Risk posed by the portfolio of clients
• Knowledge of industry and exposure to Japan/Asian FIG market and regulatory environment
• Proven record of proactively developing and originating client solutions.
• Track record of building & developing long term relationships with clients.
• Ability to develop a dialogue with the client on a multi-product basis.
• Good understanding of risk management and risk mitigation.
• Good understanding of the range of products offered by the Bank to FIG clients
• Preferably knowledge of HSBC Group and products, and a strong network of contacts across all business areas.
• University graduate with over 5 years of relevant banking experience.
• Business Japanese language skills required
