This function brings together distinct specialisms to drive greater connectivity in how we manage engagement with key stakeholders for HSBC.

  • Finance teams provide the bank with internal and external financial reporting, forecasting, controls oversight and stress testing expertise. Specialist areas also manage HSBC’s worldwide tax affairs, group treasury needs, and events for investors and analysts.
  • Sustainability teams lead the bank’s work to support sustainable growth in a global economy, including an ambitious plan to prioritise financing that supports the transition to net zero.
  • Group External Communications teams – including colleagues from Media Relations, ESG Communications and Group Reputation –?deliver communication strategies that support HSBC’s strategic objectives, protect our reputation and build trust among our stakeholders.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Business Finance Manager.

Principal Responsibilities

In this role you will

  • Deliver MI results for Global Insurance business - maintain efficient reporting processes and effective controls – exploiting both Group and Insurance tools to establish robust and routine processes for internal reporting under IFRS17 including actuals, forecast & FRP, and GI performance under IFRS17 using an appropriate mixture of metrics to highlight performance
  • Planning & Forecasting – work with all stakeholders to determine the plan process and define the specific inputs, outputs and dependencies on other systems/ tools, with the aim to deliver robust plan for the GI business
  • Collaborating with GI Cost management lead to support cost management efforts, managing central and Group Insurance costs, including challenging sites and identifying cost risks and opportunities, and delivery of related Management Information data and management of the associated processes
  • Other responsibilities include monitoring and enhancing insights into the Insurance indirect and intercompany cost bases, and collaborating with the Insurance GFOC team in managing the internal Insurance recharging model – pivotal activities in ensuring the Insurance business is accurately and appropriately managing allocation of costs around its business
  • Collaborating with other business finance sub-teams to ensure key monthly MI deliverables are provided to relevant stakeholders timely, with reliable information and quality analysis
  • Through the year, understand the change requests for MI as IFRS 17 reporting evolves, and ensure the information is included timely with proper governance
  • Identify process improvements, efficiency opportunities and address any data integrity / governance issues across all aspects of MI reporting
  • Building strong relationships with respective stakeholders and information providers for smooth functioning of business finance processes
Requirements

To be successful you will need

  • Chartered Accountant or similar professional qualification and a strong understanding of life insurance industry preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with a commercial bias and an investigative mindset
  • Past work experience in a large and complex operating environment would be advantageous
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience of preparation of reports, analysis and commentary suitable for presentation to senior management
  • Appetite to learn, investigate and challenge particularly through transition into IFRS 17 reporting, but also on an ongoing basis
  • A team player, with strong work ethics, able to deliver under pressure and contribute to a collegial work environment
  • Ability to take the initiative and undertake and drive tasks forward with minimum supervision, whilst also delivering a collaborative approach to working within and across adjacent teams based across multiple locations
  • Disciplined approach to process and controls
