We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Director AI Commercialisation.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly capable and motivated individual to join HSBCs Group AI function. This individual will act as a bridge between cutting-edge AI/ML capabilities and real-world business applications, with the responsibility of driving the identification, development, and delivery of AI-powered efficiency and innovation opportunities across the business.

Leading a team of AI Commercialisation resource, you will partner with business units and functions to uncover use cases, pilot solutions, and scale impactful AI initiatives. The role also involves forming and managing partnerships with third-party providers to accelerate AI adoption and ensure access to best-in-class technology. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the AI/ML landscape, solid experience in financial services, and a proven ability to support and scale AI-driven process transformation in complex, regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Integration:
    Deploy into key business units to identify, shape, and drive AI/ML-enabled process redesign initiatives.
  • Technology Translation:
    Translate business problems into AI/ML use cases and ensure the solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with the latest technological advancements.
  • Solution Development & Testing:
    Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product owners to develop, test, and validate AI/ML models and applications.  Assess internal processes and data to pinpoint areas where AI can drive measurable improvements.
  • Governance & Risk Management:
    Lead the prioritisation, preparation and submission of models and AI solutions through internal governance processes. Ensure solutions meet ethical, regulatory, and operational risk standards.
  • Scalable Delivery:
    Design for safe, sustainable, and scalable deployment of AI/ML capabilities within production environments, with attention to control frameworks and long-term maintenance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Work closely with senior stakeholders in technology, risk, compliance, operations, and business lines to build understanding, secure approvals, and support and report on implementation.
  • Thought Leadership:
    Act as an internal expert on AI/ML trends, regulatory developments, and best practices in AI deployment within financial services.
Requirements

Key Requirements:

  • Experience and Knowledge:
    • Extensive years of experience in AI/ML solution delivery or product development, ideally within regulated industries.
    • Significant years of experience in financial services, consulting, or technology with a focus on innovation or transformation.
    • Strong understanding of financial services processes and operational challenges.
  • Technical Understanding:
    • Deep knowledge of the AI/ML ecosystem, including recent advancements in foundation models, generative AI, NLP, and traditional ML.
    • Familiarity with model development lifecycle, MLOps, data governance, and responsible AI principles.
  • Business Acumen:
    • Proven ability to identify impactful use cases and align AI solutions with business strategy and KPIs.
  • Governance & Risk Awareness:
    • Experience navigating model governance, risk, and compliance processes in a banking context.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
    • Adaptable, pragmatic, and delivery-focused mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Finance, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) or certifications in AI/ML or data science is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud-based AI platforms.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks on AI in financial services (e.g., EU AI Act, UK PRA/FCA guidance).
