We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of Shared Services and PSM Enablement.

Role Purpose:

It is HSBC’s ambition “to be the preferred international financial partner for our clients”. Wholesale Credit and Lending (WCL) is an integral part of this partnership.

The WCL Value Stream (VS) is embarking on an exciting global journey, transforming our end-to-end Credit and Lending processes across two key business lines: the Global Commercial Bank (CMB) and the Global Banking & Markets (GBM).  The WCL VS is comprised of dedicated specialist teams called Sub-Value Streams (SVS) and Enablers which are responsible for a defined scope and structure ensuring front-to-back enhancements and maintenance. Through this design the department can foster lasting change by enhancing technology and capabilities, promoting efficiency and automation, elevating risk management standards, and accelerating balance sheet velocity across the businesses. This is achieved by delivering innovative infrastructure and capabilities to revolutionize Credit & Lending experiences for our customers, colleagues, and regulators.

To accelerate Bank’s ability to respond to and fulfill the customer’s request for new credit and comply with ever changing regulatory demands and several high priority regulatory obligations. WCL is working on significant multi-year front-to-back transformation aimed at driving fundamental change, rather than fragmented, incremental improvements. This includes re-defining our credit and lending strategy, re-engineering our end-to-end credit approval process across businesses and geographies, standardising our limit management process and improving the Parental Support Framework.

We are therefore currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of Shared Services & PSM Enablement SVS within Wholesale Credit & Lending Value Stream (reporting to Head of WCL Technology - MD).

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for large scale end-to-end delivery and control over shared Services related to Collateral Management, Facilities Management of the Digital Credit Platform by enabling migration of collateral & facilities functionality from Legacy to strategic applications, Reduce the number of non-strategic applications in WCL Technology estate.
  • Establish a framework for resolving material deficiencies in our IRB models and broader risk rating systems addressing underlying root causes of insufficient data capture and over-reliance on external sources, lack of systemic data quality control, insufficient lineage & inconsistent in data, driven by lack of linkage between systems involving credit limit approval, trade capture, portfolio management etc  
  • Responsible for delivering and managing a multi-year business case, meeting and where possible exceeding the OKRs - Improve the time-to-loan availability ("time to cash"), Increase in Auto & Assisted Decisioning, Reduce the loan origination and underwriting
  • Defining and executing our Shared Services technology strategy, driving innovation, and overseeing the development and delivery of cutting-edge solutions with a tight control around Cost, Schedule and Quality aspects
  • Take high level concepts, ideas and data points turning them into insights and a series of tangible actions delivering real value, and then partnering with other business areas to build and deliver the execution plan
  • Establish internal partnerships to elevate our customer experience overall with additional focus on customer segments where there is additional opportunity for growth or we have a duty of care to offer more bespoke support
  • Facilitate technology to help develop opportunities for strategically aligned bulk growth initiatives operating across business areas to build and successfully implement execution plans
  • Actively collaborate with wider technology horizontals and the WCL sub value streams to manage Architecture & Design, DevOps Standards & Tools, Engineering, Application Support, IT Management Services, IT Quality, Data, IT People & Location Strategy, IT Sourcing & Vendor Management, IT Risk Management, Information Security, and Infrastructure teams.
  • Adheres to standards for the management of Resilience Risk as set out in the Group’s framework for Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk management, and Resilience Risks are managed within appetite
  • Recruitment and leadership of talent, manage skill & performance, support career development and drive a strategic outcome aligned future focused engineering discipline.
  • Enhance and promote a culture of best practice, innovation, standards, and continuous improvement. 
  • Responsible for building and maturing the self-sustained DevOps teams to carry out the development, maintenance and support of the workflow systems
  • Manage the Sub Value Stream Backlog, to prioritize quarterly delivery targets and resolve conflicts and manage dependencies
  • Ensure Technology and operational risks are appropriately controlled in line with Group and business objectives.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Proven, broad-based Wholesale and Wholesale Credit Lending and Risk management services and banking experience or equivalent, and proven track record with significant managerial and leadership experience.
  • A successful Technology Leader must have a broad knowledge of program management principles, practical agile experience, a strong technical background and proven experience in transforming the ways of working of a technology team
  • A good working knowledge of Commercial Credit & Lending business and an excellent practical working knowledge of technology delivery is critical, Proven understanding of commercial aspects of the organization set with both an external market and regulatory landscape
  • 15+ years of IT experience with strategic mindset and knowledge in handling strategic and regulatory projects
  • Experience of working in an environment of ambiguity, with autonomy, dealing with major issues for which there may not be a clear solution whilst being able to provide judgment and clear direction.
  • Requires very strong abilities in critical thinking, creativity, and innovation in developing new concepts, theories, and products to address complex and strategic issues
  • Management of business relationships globally to ensure and maintain relevance and appropriateness of IT strategy to emerging business priorities
  • Delivery of Complex Change: Have consistently demonstrated the successful management and delivery of complex transformational change both regionally and globally
  • Ability to make technical decisions by staying abreast of advancements in related technologies and Drive Engineering & Service Efficiency / Excellence
  • Covers a wide range of activities that require complex judgements based on advanced analytical thought. Problems often require an innovative approach, based on extensive research
  • Develops new and adapts existing processes for increased quality and efficiency whilst encouraging others to seek new ideas/solutions to day to day problems.
  • Communication and engagement skills are critical to the success of the role. The successful candidate will carry a strong professional presence with the ability to engage and communicate throughout the breadth and depth of the organization.
