We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head of Transformation & Platforms.

Role purpose 

This position is integral to the HSBC Life Hong Kong Business, focusing on executing programs that align with the strategic priorities of the organization. It involves steering the strategic direction, development, and operational management of the Employee Benefits platforms. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that change programs are delivered effectively to meet business objectives. Additionally, the role requires ensuring that platform solutions are optimally designed to be scalable and support organizational growth. The role is also responsible for the ongoing management of the EB platforms. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Strategic Leadership & Planning: Collaborate closely with the Executive Committee to establish the change agenda for the business. Drive the planning and execution of initiatives by managing scope, timeline, and cost. Secure buy-in from and influence executive management and stakeholders for all key program plans, commitments, and changes, including requirements, test plans, budget, schedule, scope, risk mitigation, and contingency plans. Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement, ensuring the synergistic development and enhancement of the Employee Benefits platform.
  2. Collaboration and Integration: Work collaboratively with stakeholders across local business, technology and Group teams to effectively deliver the change agenda. Develop partnerships that provide commercial value to the business, including the adoption of innovative third-party technologies. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages diverse perspectives and inclusive discussions.
  3. Platform Development, Optimization and Management: Lead the design, development, and deployment of platform enhancements and new features. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of the platform. Oversee daily platform operations, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security. Implement best practices for platform maintenance, monitoring, and incident management. Ensure scalability of the platform to support multiple markets.
  4. Performance Management: Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the success of transformation initiatives. Hold teams accountable for achieving these targets and provide guidance to overcome any challenges. Monitor and report on the Sub Value Streams and intervene when programs go off track. Ensure all agreed costs, quality, and delivery commitments to stakeholders are met. Promote adherence to the project/program governance model and use agreed digital tools and Ways of Working. Ensure through analysis and future proof design of relevant aspects of change to minimize issues/incidents related to change.
  5. Leadership and Team Management: Build and nurture a high-performing team across various disciplines. Ensure effective collaboration within sub-teams. Integrate the platforms team into the broader transformation team and encourage talent development and up/cross-skilling to build a versatile pool of highly effective resources. Lead the on-shore and off-shore teams to develop a deep understanding of the business, challenge the status quo, improve ways of working, and instill a growth mindset. Set clear objectives and performance expectations for team members, aligned with strategic objectives.
  6. Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with transformation initiatives, enabling thorough risk assessment and articulation of the risk. Design and implement controls for risk mitigation. Closely monitor and manage the risk to the delivery of programs and develop mitigation strategies. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure risk management plans are comprehensive and actionable.

Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders

  1. Accountable for the effective utilization of the Annual Technology budget of ~25M USD to drive key initiatives that enable business growth 
  2. Accountable for ensuring an appropriate set of delivery and outcome metrics through clear Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) across the sub value streams  
  3. Effective governance of Insurance Transformation portfolio, ensuring senior executive visibility of status and effective decision making to manage portfolio risk and take appropriate action  
  4. Lead a cross functional team of Business Analysts, Delivery Leads, Testing Specialists and Platform managers to deliver the strategic change agenda of the business as well as overseeing the BAU management of the EB platforms  
  5. Effectively manage third parties ensuring optimal outcomes  
  6. Successful delivery of Plan on headcount, direct cost and FTE 
  7. Development and management of a scalable and resilient Employee Benefits platform with capabilities that can be re-used by other markets 
  8. Build and maintain business knowledge within the team by ensuring comprehensive documentation such a process maps, risks assessments, platform specifications etc. 
  9. Adhere to relevant compliance requirements and change management frameworks 
  10. Manage changing and sometimes conflicting prioritizes to deliver optimal outcomes for the business.

KPIs will include, and not restricted to 

  1. Achieving OKRs 
  2. Minimizing change related incidents within Risk Appetite 
  3. Effective cost management and budget utilization   
  4. Achieve KPIs of the EB platforms covering resilience, incident management, security and scalability 
  5. Positive feedback from a diverse set of stakeholders – senior management, peers, team etc. 

Leadership & Teamwork 

  1. Lead, coach/develop and performance manage a team that is known for high performance. Focus on developing team members to reach their full potential 
  2. Recruit and retain talent as required focusing on future skills to drive execution of key initiatives 
  3. Manage resources to ensure the team are highly skilled fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement 
  4. Provide robust change leadership supporting the business in making prioritization decisions, co-creating solutions and risk mitigation strategies 
  5. Build effective relationships and collaborate with stakeholders across local insurance business, group insurance, technology functions, wider bank as well as 2nd and 3rd line where needed 
Requirements

Functional Knowledge

  1. Possess a solid understanding of the insurance industry with a proven track record of successfully delivering change initiatives 
  2. A strong understanding of technology platform management to ensure resilience, scalability and business continuity 
  3. Demonstrate team leadership attributes with experience in working within teams across multiple sites in a highly matrixed organization 
  4. Proven ability to maximize partnerships and effectively manage third-party relationships 
  5. Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends that can drive transformation and innovation 
  6. Expertise in analyzing and optimizing business processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness 
  7. Strong skills in strategic planning and execution, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans 
  8. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and alignment across different areas of the organization 
  9. Proven ability to influence leadership teams and secure senior stakeholder buy-in through impactful story telling 
  10. Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter with energy and drive in a challenging and dynamic environment 
  11. Ability to think innovatively, shaping and communicating sound principals to support design and development of effective solutions
