Markets & Securities Services (“MSS”) is part of our HSBC Corporate and Institutional Banking divisiona markets-led, financing-focused business offering investment and financial solutions. MSS’s Markets division is one of the largest of its kind globally, combining sophisticated 24-hour international coverage with deep local market expertise. We specialize in foreign exchange and commodities, credit and rates, structured derivatives, equities and equity-linked capital markets.

Overview
You will begin your journey with us in one of the front office teams within Markets, which include:

  • Sales: Responsible for the sale and intermediation of global and domestic financial products to financial institutions and corporate clients. Our broad spectrum of products spans FX, bonds, credit, precious metals to financing, and continues to evolve. Sales staff take a solutions-oriented approach, tailoring offerings to clients’ diverse needs across growth, risk hedging, efficiency, sustainability, and more.
  • Funding Desk: Responsible for sourcing and risk management for financing transactions involving various underlying assets, predominantly government bonds denominated in JPY and USD, such as JGBs and USTs. Facilitating the intermediation of financing products is also a key responsibility of the team.

What Will You Do?
During your first year, you will complete two or three rotations, each lasting either four or six months
one of which will be outside your selected discipline. This rotational structure is designed to give you a broad, well-rounded understanding of multiple asset classes, including foreign exchange and commodities, credit and rates, structured derivatives, equities and equity-linked capital markets. You’ll also acquire a thorough understanding of risk, a crucial element in protecting our clients’ interests.

In your second year, you will be placed in Markets, where you’ll have the opportunity to choose a path in either sales or trading. Here, you’ll further expand your experience and establish your professional reputation.

Wherever you join us, you will be supported and guided by our teams and leaders to ensure you reach your full potential, reflecting your unique interests and capabilities. We provide the resources, tools, and opportunities for you to take charge of your own development. As you progress through your rotations, you’ll learn from experts and gain highly valuable insights into HSBC’s strengths in the financial services industry.

Your training will be carefully structured, with regular access to business leaders for coaching and feedback, enabling you to continuously track your progress. You’ll be assigned both a mentor and a buddy for ongoing guidance and support. Participation in our sustainability initiatives will also help you build new skills and could position you as a future leader of HSBC, while adding value to the communities we serve.

The Markets Japan Graduate Programme marks the start of an exciting, long-term career. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will take on an analyst role with the potential to progress to senior positions.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and provide support where possible.

In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will be proactive and forward-thinking, ready to challenge the status quo, and demonstrate strong drive and determination. You should be eager to learn and continuously develop, possess a natural ability to build relationships with colleagues, and have a willingness to take on challenging assignments. An aptitude for understanding the strategic direction of the bank, project management skills, and a keen interest in business development are highly valued.

The base location for this role is Tokyo.
