Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel, Digital.
The Senior Legal Counsel, Digital, is a key member of the Digital Legal Services team. Our global team supports HSBC across our global operations by advising on technology, data, cybersecurity, intellectual, digital assets and currencies, and other related legal issues. In this role, you will have exciting opportunities to work closely with legal peers and business stakeholders to help HSBC navigate the ever-evolving legal landscape of digitization and emerging technologies in the Asia Pacific region and globally.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with HSBC's regional and global Digital teams across various business lines regarding the bank's digital platforms.
- Utilize your expertise to provide guidance on various activities, including digital platforms and resilience, artificial intelligence, digital assets and currencies, technology partnerships, and emerging technology regulations.
- Keep abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends, working closely with business units to ensure compliance and mitigate potential legal risks for HSBC.
- Partner with other departments, such as risk management and compliance, to develop and implement effective legal strategies and solutions.
- Review and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to safeguard HSBC's interests and ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
- Providing trainings to other lawyers and stakeholders on regulatory trends, legal risks associated with emerging technologies
- Must be a qualified lawyer in good standing.
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience advising on issues related to digitization and emerging technologies.
- Familiar with the digital financial services market and the developing approach of relevant regulations.
- Some knowledge of laws impacting the digital provision of financial services across Asia and globally.
- Experience advising on complex digital and technology projects, emerging technology issues.
- Demonstrate an interest in and understanding of technology, artificial intelligence, digital assets and currencies, with the ability to engage with technology professionals.
- Experience working in a financial institution, law firm, or other fast-paced, complex work environments.
- Be a collaborative team player, yet capable of working independently with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Exhibit excellent negotiation and drafting skills, with a proven ability to take initiative and apply sound commercial and legal judgment.
- Approachable, possess a commercial mindset, and able to explain complex legal concepts in an easily understandable manner.
- Experience in cybersecurity and intellectual property is advantageous but not essential.
