The Opportunity:

Role

  • The Senior Portfolio Services Manager is accountable for managing and leading portfolio management support activity within their allocated portfolio as required by the Risk & Compliance Transformation Portfolio Execution Central PMO function.
  • They are accountable for overseeing order book and value management activities including stakeholder management, portfolio prioritisation facilitation, benefits realisation, cost management and resource and capability management (i.e. support the matching of supply and demand through demand forecasting and management). They directly support their Delivery Director to manage their portfolio and they also support the Central PMO to implement the required ways of working into their team.

Transformation:

  • The role holder will work in Risk and Compliance Transformation (RCT) which manages the Change the Bank investment portfolio and associated transformation activity on behalf of and across the Risk and Compliance function globally. It is accountable for the global, cross functional change agenda, delivering mandatory/regulatory and strategic change programmes on behalf of Global Risk and Compliance, in partnership with regional teams and in support of business partner control needs. It designs, leads and delivers large scale, complex global change across multiple geographies and jurisdictions, impacting regions and business lines, including system, people and process changes, ensuring the change programmes adhere to the change standards laid out by HSBC and using mandated tools and methods.
  • Risk and Compliance Transformation is part of the Chief Operating Office (COO) sub function which is responsible for providing services to ensure the efficient and effective management and operational running of the function.

Function:

  • The Global Risk and Compliance function has responsibility for risk management covering retail and wholesale credit, market trading and treasury, operations, security and fraud risk, climate, risk models and risk strategy together with financial crime and compliance. This is done in support of HSBC’s regions and global lines of business. 
  • Risk & Compliance Transformation (CT) ensures effective and efficient definition, planning, management and execution of global change programmes related to financial crime risk, supporting the business teams and HSBC to meet its regulatory commitments and covers key areas such as money laundering, sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption.

What you’ll do:

Principal Accountabilities: Value Creation

  • Provide a single portfolio-view of change programmes and projects in the Bank, providing Risk & Compliance Transformation Leadership, as well as Global Business and Global Functions Executive, with a clear understanding of the portfolio profile, the expected and/or realised benefits, portfolio status and demand and supply
  • Provide specific insights over and above the data aggregation view on cross-portfolio dependencies and impacts to Global Business/Global Functions
  • Based on the numbers provided by the Risk & Compliance Portfolio Execution Services Finance, centralise and provide explanations on variations in performance targets and measures
  • Support discussions to ensure alignment with strategy and that the portfolio can be delivered in terms of demand & supply, financials, time and benefits realisation
  • Actively facilitate portfolio (and cross portfolio) prioritisation process
  • Facilitate the resource demand and supply management process by forecasting and managing demand (via the Order Book)
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests to support critical decision making

Principal Accountabilities: Operational Performance 

  • Ensure transparency of portfolio performance, milestones tracking, costs and benefits against baseline plan and provide commentary on variations in performance targets and measures to enable achievement of objectives
  • Ensure all actions and decisions are documented and tracked to completion within agreed timelines and targets
  • Communicate to Portfolio Execution Services any needed changes to the portfolio prioritisation and reporting frameworks
  • Act as the main facilitator to the portfolio prioritisation process on a rolling basis
  • Work with programme leads within portfolio to ensure the HSBC Change Framework governance and reporting are in place and portfolio and programme costs and benefits tracked
  • Ensure portfolio adherence to the HSBC Change Framework and complete regular checks to evidence assurance

Principal Accountabilities: Capability and People Development

  • Identifies the resource requirements of the portfolio, requesting the appropriate resource by skill set and/or experience, through the Risk & Compliance Transformation Resource Team. Works with the business and delivery partners to ensure adequate resource is provided to the portfolio.
  • Ensures good portfolio induction and orientation – i.e. understand the portfolio context, workstream structure/content, stakeholder importance and how this links to HSBC strategy
  • Foster close collaboration with Delivery Director, Global Head of Risk & Compliance Transformation, Head of Portfolio Execution Services and other teams
  • Build close working relationships with programme leads within each portfolio
  • Act as a role model and contribute to a positive work environment and promote teamwork to drive engagement across the portfolio
  • Maintain a strong focus on people development and ensure portfolio resources receive any necessary training and support

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge of Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) concepts
  • Excellent understanding of HSBC Change Framework, methodologies and best practice techniques
  • Good understanding of HSBC Group structures, processes and objectives
  • Excellent understanding and operational knowledge of Risk & Compliance Transformation toolset, specifically Clarity, JIRA, Rally and GPDM

Experience

  • Evidence of confidently operating at an Executive level
  • Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and business sponsors
  • Proven ability to facilitate effective portfolio management, with a strong understanding of risk and issue management, financial management, programme and portfolio planning, tracking and monitoring performance)
  • Strong understanding of analysing, interpreting and working with information (both financial or non-financial) and variance reporting
  • Experience in influencing a complex and diverse stakeholder environment
