We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Sr. Associate Director, Software Engineering Specialist
In this role, you will:
- Provide overall leadership, oversight etc to build and run the UNIX practice capability within MSS Tech; across all dimensions, including people, process and tools. Proactive in identifying and clearing roadblocks for the virtual team
- Develop talent in the virtual team and create opportunities.
- Manage a global virtual team of circa 20 – 30 infra UNIX FTEs. Accountable to ensure best practice, standards, recommended tools and technologies are used within MSS Tech.
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the virtual team by automating manual task. Devolve responsibility where automation is not possible to the POD teams. Champion the use of Agile and DevOps principles/methodologies.Identify key blockers and play a lead role in the removal of blockers and hence facilitate the implemenation of tactical and strategic solutions accordingly.
- Accountable for CTO UNIX relationship within MSS. Collaborate with peers in Tech and HTS Partners, to ensure the delivery of goals for MSS with respect to the infrastructure aspects. Communicate and implement the MSS & CTO strategy to explain the benefits accordingly.
- Act as escalation proint for all UNIX issues teams are unable to resolve themselves.
- Face off/Influence CTO/Cyber teams to adapt/evolve to meet MSS requirements and vice versa
- Governance over compliance to Security Standards; Approval of membership to privileged access groups (GSDE, Build and PAM).
- Governance of OAT and quality controls against standard baselines before go-live.
- Governance over critical patching and production of MI.
- Drive the evolution of Hashicorp Vault across MSS and HSBC.
- Be able to solution design and make judgement calls about adoption of tech debt
- Apply experience to identify most important parts of a problem
- Governance over technical interviews, assessments and certification for cross-training into Practice functional roles.
- Leverages experience and uses strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders including customers, senior management and other business leaders
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Must have substantial experience (10 years minimum) of UNIX including expert level knowledge of the RedHat 6/7/8/9
- Excellent programming skills – ideally Shell Scripting and Python
- Expert level knowledge in all aspects of Systems Performance
- Expert level knowledge of Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas Cluster Server
- Good practical knowledge of Networks and network technologies
- Good understanding of the Linux kernel
- Experience as a hardware engineer responsible for the build of new servers and diagnosis of hardware faults.
- Experience of DevOps deployment and monitoring tooling such as Ansible, Grafana etc
- Practical knowledge of database technologies e.g. Oracle RAC, Dataguard
- Provide Architecture design and support for development projects from a UNIX perspective
- Good practical knowledge of SAN & NAS technologies
- Good knowledge of RAID Levels such as RAID-0, RAID-1, RAID-1+0, RAID-5.
- Knowledge of Hashicorp Vault - an advantage
- Good understating of Veritas Netbackup Client from UNIX OS perspective.
- Proven experience in managing and building relationship with developers, management and infra-SME’s
Essential Soft skills:
- Proven problem solver (technical and non technical) who can lead from the front when required. Able to take a hands on/off view when managing problems.
- Proven manager with experience of managing physical /virtual teams (located locally and remotely) across the globe.
- Excellent decision making and problem solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to translate technical details into easily understood and consumable data/reports. Proven track record of presenting to all levels of management
- Have an automation/change mentality and strive for constant improvements via automated processes.
