We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as a Assistant Manager Global Markets Product Control - Benchmark Monitoring


Role Purpose

Product Control (PC) is an integral control function which provides independent control and assurance, product expertise, commercial insight and guidance to all businesses involved in trading activities throughout HSBC. 

HSBC contributes to the setting of various financial benchmarks, and the individual performing this role will be responsible for the independent review and control of activities undertaken by the business as it relates to the financial benchmark rate-setting. 


Principal Accountabilities:

Impact on the Business: 

Primary responsibility is to ensure the integrity of benchmark rates through the daily review of activities undertaken by the business. The review includes (but are not limited to): 

  • Providing daily independent review, monitoring and challenge across benchmark submissions made across the bank/business.
  • Analyzing data submitted to external calculating agents and providing independent commentary and challenge to the business performing the submissions.
  • Comparison of submissions with available market evidence
  • Ensuring the bank’s internal controls around benchmark submission and administration are aligned to regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring data integrity, managing system interfaces, maintaining access/controls relating to systems used for benchmark monitoring
  • Providing periodic assessments on the suitability of controls used for benchmark monitoring
  • Managing and validating market data inputs used for the performance of the benchmark controls
  • Escalating to senior managers and to the relevant governance forums where independent controls indicate misconduct in benchmark rate-setting activities
  • Coordinating with internal and external audit during regular audits
  • Participating in strategic change initiatives including various projects and system/ infrastructure enhancements within Product Control
  • Identifying areas for process improvement and find innovative solutions with specific focus on improving controls and reducing operational risks.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • The candidate is expected to proactively build and manage relationships with onshore Product Control teams across Asia Pacific as well as other internal clients within Finance, Regulatory Compliance, Controls Office, IT, and Front Office. 

Leadership & Teamwork 

  • To work with teams in the Product Control function to achieve the goals and objectives as established by the Line Manager. Provides assistance to Team Lead in resolving Product Control related queries from stakeholders and ensure accurate and timely control and service delivery.
Qualifications
Experience, Skills and Qualifications  

  • Preferably with background in financial, economic, accounting or mathematical subjects.
  • Product Control experience, preferably in FX, Rates, or Equities.
  • Very good written English and oral communication skills. 
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, quantitative skills, MS Access or VBA experience, or involvement in Robotics Process Automation (RPA) project initiatives is an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ambitious, driven and enthusiastic.
  • Professional qualification such as CPA, CFA and FRM will be an added advantage.
  • Willing to work in shifts schedules, change on weekly statutory rest day and weekly contractual rest day from time to time, depending upon operational and/or business requirements. 
  • Flexible to work at such premises of the Company.
