We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering.

Principal responsibilities
Database Design and Architecture:
- Design and implement efficient database schemas.
- Ensure the database structure supports application requirements and scalability.
Database Administration:
- Install, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL databases in custody.
- Monitor database health, including performance, storage, and resource usage.
- Manage database backups, recovery, and disaster recovery plans.
Data Integration and Migration:
- Lead data migration plan/design/execution between databases, especially migrate Oracle to PostgreSQL.
Security Management:
- Implement and enforce HSBC database security policies.
- Manage user roles, permissions, and authentication mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
- Automation and Scripting.
- Troubleshooting and Support.
Performance Optimization:
- Analyze and optimize query performance.
- Tune database configurations for optimal performance.
- Implement indexing strategies and partitioning.
- Proven experience as a PostgreSQL Database Expert or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of database design, optimization, and administration.
- Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash), Java is a plus.
- Familiarity with database monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Knowledgeable of data security and compliance standards.
- Experience with Spring Boot and Java-based applications.
- Familiar with configuration management tools such as Ansible and Puppet.
- Knowledgeable of Continuous Integration tools such as Jenkins, Maven and GitHub.
- Familiarity with Oracle database and cloud-based database solutions.
- Experience working on data migration project.
- Must have strong communication skills both in written and in verbal form.
- Result-oriented, passionate about improving user experience, a critical and strategic thinker, highly organized, able to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines.
- Team-player and team-builder, work comfortably in constantly evolving environment, and demonstrate calmness and composure in times of uncertainty and stress.
- Thorough understanding of Agile.
- Nice to have knowledge and hands on experience in banking industry, ideally, investment banking / capital markets.
- Self-motivator, able to work alone but also able to understand when to ask for help.
