We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Data Engineer, Zing.

The Opportunity:

Zing is a brand new fintech built to make international money worry-free for anyone who sends, spends, or converts international currencies. Zing has been developed within the HSBC Group to work for anyone, even if they don’t have a HSBC account. Zing is a separate brand and product established under HSBC Group, so we can be an agile fintech whilst getting the benefits of having one of the world’s biggest international banks as a parent.

What we’re looking for:

The data strategy for this app spans the entire data spectrum: engineering, data modelling, data science, analytics, reporting, customer selections, data visualisation, architecting use cases with other teams, data governance and commercial data strategy.

The Data Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our data infrastructure, ensuring the availability, reliability, and scalability of our financial data systems. This is a fantastic opportunity for a data professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about transforming raw data into actionable insights.

What you will be doing:

  • Fulfil operational and strategic reporting & data visualisation needs across the organisation
  • Create and manage the logic in the singular, semantic reporting layer so definitions of KPIs are applied consistently
  • Develop and support AI-driven / analytics-driven data model design within data engineering team
  • Design and develop a DataOps transformation model to enable self-serve, high-performing data ETL for both ad-hoc analytical purpose and real-time large Machine Learning / AI model inference
  • Hands-on development for data ETL pipeline, data quality check and be responsible for peer coding reviews
  • Develop and support the cross-market data design communication and data synergies
  • Fulfil the operational data needs for customer marketing and service messaging
  • Construct and execute hypothesis tests using the data on our analytical environment in Python, SQL and third party dashboards
  • Understand, at a high level, the business objective and have this drive the work
  • Create an elegant, polished data visualisation, suitable for the executive level
  • Perform ad-hoc data tasks such as reconciliation to assist the team where required
Requirements

What the role requires to be successful:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in hands-on environment requiring data manipulation
  • Technical expertise in tools spanning: data warehousing, ETL, internal visualisation and analytics. Good examples are Snowflake, GCP, Azure Analytics, Sagemaker, Databricks, Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, Quicksight, Airflow, astronomer.io, Alteryx, Collibra.
  • Programming skills: python, SQL, Jupyter notebook or similar
  • Building effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Familiarity with cloud\dev\prod environments
  • Project experience in designing & developing high-performance solution for handling extremely large volume data processing, storage and wrangling in real-time manner
  • Good understanding of DevOps, DataOps or MLOps
  • Cloud-native data ETL development is preferred
  • Understanding of either when to apply machine learning, or how to train basic machine learning models is desirable but not essential

  • Have experience collaborating with data engineers on pipelines, ETL or production releases
