We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Director, Institutional Business, China.
Role purpose
With the fast business expansion in China, Macau, this role is required to the support the Team head to accelerate business expansion in key strategic client segments including insurance, bank and other FIs. Help the team head to building on agility, innovation and customer centricity. This role is part of North Asia Institutional client team with focus on understanding present and future client needs, identification of market opportunities, development and execution of sales strategies. The ultimate goal is to help team head to improve client journey with HSBC and contribute to customer growth, revenue growth, increase customer value and satisfaction in order to meet agreed objectives and key results.
The role holder must support achievement of the HSBC vision, values, goals and culture in personal behavior, actions and decision making.
Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with institutional clients, including insurance companies, banks and other FIs within the China, Hongkong and Macau region. Serve as the primary contact for client inquiries, providing exceptional service and ensuring alignment with their investment objectives.
- Sales Strategy Execution: Develop and execute effective sales strategies tailored to assigned clients in China, HongKong and Macau markets. Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow assets. Drive revenue growth by promoting investment products across asset classes, such as equities, fixed income, alternatives, and multi-asset solutions.
Director, Institutional Business, China - Market Insights: Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive developments to identify opportunities. Provide actionable insights to both clients and internal teams, ensuring solutions are aligned with market demands.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with product, investment, and marketing teams to deliver customized solutions and presentations. Collaborate with regional and global colleagues to ensure consistency in client service and messaging.
- Brand Representation: Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance brand visibility and client engagement.

Leadership & Teamwork
- Cultivate the relationship with insurance, banks and other Fis and helped Head of China and Macau to meet KPI targets
- Act as a specialist for Insurers and provide consultation for internal stakeholders when needed
- Help the team head to coach junior sales in striving for strong performance
- Support cross-BU business collaboration with CIB, INHK, HSIC, Jintrust and HSBC Qianhai Securities
- Demonstrate Customer Centricity by thinking and acting beyond product sales.
Functional Knowledge
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field. MBA or CFA preferred
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in institutional sales, asset management, or related roles, with a proven track record in China and or HK markets
- Skills: Strong relationship management, strategic thinking, knowledge of asset classes, and investment solutions. Fluency in both English and Mandarin required; Cantonese proficiency preferred
