Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance. Its purpose is to make sure HSBC understands and effectively controls its non-financial risk position, through end-to-end oversight of processes, risks, and controls and by robust stewardship of the bank's risk appetite to comply with risk, business and regulatory priorities. It seeks to strengthen the risk culture across the organisation through the application of effective policies and frameworks that drive consistent risk management practices across our businesses and functions at global, regional and market level.
This role has two components. The role holder will support the Regional Head of ERM Business Oversight & Head of Network Markets (NM), Europe, in overseeing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) colleagues based in our Network Markets*, to ensure the consistent, high quality delivery of the ERM services to the businesses and functions in the Network Markets (specifically Operational & Resilience Risk Stewardship). The role holder would also be the named Resilience Risk steward in any Network Market where we do not have locally based ERM resource (currently Israel) and / or where we have a temporary ERM vacancy (currently CIIOM).
The role holder will also support the Regional Head of ERM Business Oversight & Head of Network Markets, Europe, in providing Operational & Resilience Risk Stewardship to the UK Insurance business and overseeing the Wealth & Personal Banking (WPB) business at a regional level. This will include attending some regional level WPB risk meetings, completing risk maps, completing thematic risk reviews for the WPB business etc.
*Network Markets are currently Armenia, Bermuda, Channel Islands & Isle of Man, Israel, Switzerland, South Africa
What you’ll do
- Be point of contact for the NM team for general queries, as well as direct and support the businesses and functions in the Network Markets, Europe, on their ERM management
- Support the completion of thematic reviews across the Network Markets, Europe to identify trends or emerging issues, and to ensure that the risk and control environment is commensurate with the scale and nature of operations
- Support the review of Risk Maps and RAS entries for the NM to ensure consistency and quality, working with the relevant Risk Specialist team
- Assist in on-boarding, coaching and buddying new ERM team members in the Network Markets.
- Deputise, as required, for the Regional Head of ERM Business Oversight at any HBEU / EMEA WPB risk meetings.
- Support thematic reviews across WPB, Europe, to identify trends or emerging issues, and to ensure that the risk and control environment is commensurate with the scale and nature of operations.
- Support the embedding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and provide advice, guidance, and challenge in relation to ERM oversight and internal control effectiveness across WPB, Europe
What you need to have to succeed in this role:
- Broad knowledge of Operational & Resilience Risk and experience of working in a complex, multijurisdictional organisation.
- Broad understanding of Non-Financial Risk Framework and the role and responsibilities of Risk Stewards.
- Relevant experience in Second Line of Defense Resilience Risk Stewardship (providing advice, guidance, and challenge) and/or First Line experience in WPB (including Retail, Wealth, Asset Management, Global Private Bank and/or Insurance) businesses
- Professional qualifications in any of the Resilience Risk specialisms (Data, Technology & Cyber Security, Third Parties, Transaction Processing & Payments) may be advantageous.
- Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), written and verbal communications skills.
