Global Banking & Markets (GBM) is the “investment bank” for HSBC. Our businesses generate millions of transactions across a range of financial markets.  Our IT teams design and develop modern systems covering all aspects - trading in the markets, sales and customer tools, handling transactions and building financial and regulatory reporting.

As a Software Engineering Manager you will lead the Krakow-based team of 3 teams, as well as coordinate cooperation with 2 Poznan based ones. Those teams are responsible for the full delivery cycle and support of Collateral Management Platform. Local team collaborates closely with teams in London and Pune.

The project:
The Collateral Platform is critical for the bank from the regulatory standpoint. It allows the Collateral Operations Team to perform the daily margining functions and managing risk across thousands of HSBC clients globally and to provide data & analytics to optimise its usage.

What you’ll do
    • Oversee and manage development and support/SRE teams across multiple regions (Krakow, China, Canada, Poland, India), including hiring, training, performance reviews, and team building.
    • Manage entity structure and drive team growth, ensuring optimal organisation, resource allocation, and development opportunities for team members.
    • Lead adoption of DevOps, Agile, and SRE principles and culture, driving innovation, automation, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide leadership in architectural and technical design decisions for the platform globally, including technical documentation and process re-engineering.
    • Manage application support operations, resiliency, and availability, including monitoring system health, performance, and incident management.
    • Coordinate and resolve production incidents, conduct post-mortems/RCA, and document recovery steps to establish root cause and process improvements.
    • Implement principles for developers to design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code (Java and other relevant technologies).
    • Lead adoption and process improvement around Google Cloud Platform and Infrastructure as Code, enabling scalable and automated strategies.

What you need to have to succeed in this role
    • 6+ years of Java development experience.
    • Experience in leading medium to large development teams.
    • Designing and developing microservices using Java 8 and Spring Boot.
    • Self-motivated and willing to learn new technologies and business domain.
    • 4+ years working in an Agile and/or DevOps team.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Proven track record of working on significant projects from conception to completion.
    • Should be able to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems.
