This role supports and is supported by the Head of Network Intrusion Prevention and Detection Security and the Head of Network Security, with the expectation that the Network Intrusion Prevention and Detection Security Engineer provides technical expertise and SME knowledge to the engagements and projects assigned to them, taking ownership, and driving to a successful conclusion, and supports other Cybersecurity or Connectivity Engineering team members providing coaching, guidance and leadership as needed.


What you’ll do
    • Effectively prioritise the multiple requests for support.
    • Ensure adherence to network security standards and the wider cybersecurity control framework.
    • Challenging the Status Quo / Raising the bar - look for opportunities to continuously improve network security posture, promote knowledge sharing and optimisation with the broader Cybersecurity team.
    • The complex systems and stakeholder environment.
    • Need to constructively challenge internal project teams and stakeholders (PMs, other technical SMEs) if required.
    • Work in a geographically dispersed team.
    • Work within a constantly evolving technology landscape with evolving threats and risks.
    • Work within a strongly regulated business.

What you need to have to succeed in this role
    • Detailed understanding of network design, firewall, IDPS, content filtering, load balancing, DDoS, NAC, WAF, network segmentation technologies.
    • Detailed understanding of network security threats and risks.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience interacting with technical leaders and various layers of management.
    • Ability to build connections and work collaboratively across boundaries.
    • Willingness to continuously learn and share learnings with others.
    • Understanding of data networking principles and industry frameworks.
    • Understanding of risk management fundamentals.
    • Knowledge and experience of delivery using Agile and/or DevOps methodologies
    • Knowledge and experience of IT service management principles e.g. change control, incident and problem management, resilience and business recovery planning etc.
