Your career opportunity
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a new function, bringing together Operational & Resilience Risk (ORR) and parts of Risk Strategy and Macroeconomic Risk. It is a combined Risk Stewardship and Oversight sub-function within Global Risk and Compliance which aims at supporting the integration of the Group Framework and Appetite Management and providing broad oversight of our Non-Financial Risk Taxonomy. Our purpose is to make sure HSBC understands and is in control of its non-financial risk position, and we create robust governance, processes and procedures that ensure effective management of the function.

Data Risk management is a complex and fast-developing area due to increasing digitisation and restrictive regulations on data quality, data protection, AI, etc., which demands ever more accurate and reliable measures of risk.
Complex data flows between systems in individual regions, and then from regions across to Group require in depth engagement with stakeholders across HSBC to ensure that data is properly managed. The jobholder needs to demonstrate an expertise in data risk management, as well as oversight and assurance activities.

The role is based in Krakow and has global reach. The jobholder is required to work in an environment of significant ambiguity with autonomy, dealing with major issues for which there is no clear solution whilst still being able to provide judgment and clear direction. The jobholder is expected to demonstrate a high level of technical and non-financial risk expertise.

The role will be responsible for the provisioning of subject matter expertise to support Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) teams discharging their responsibilities in relation to data risk across all businesses and functions.

    • Provide Data Risk Stewards with technical support in their day-to-day work of supporting the ERM Business & Functions enabling risk and control owners to have clear understanding of the effectiveness of the current control environment
    • Assist Data Risk Stewards in delivering tailored and specific expertise across data risk enabling 1LOD to successfully deploy and operate mitigating key controls
    • Support Data Risk Stewards in providing assurance/completing validation on various aspects of Data controls implementation across data risk by carrying out analysis using Group Data Dashboards and other resources reporting the status of controls implementation
    • Provide analytical support to Data Risk Stewards in conducting thematic reviews covering various aspects of Data Risk and Data controls implementation
    • Provide technical support aimed at development and completion of ERM and regulatory reporting obligations, if requested by the Central Team (e.g. RAS, top & emerging risks, risk profile reporting, RMM, Board reporting where relevant, etc.)
    • Assist Central Team with required analytical and technical preparatory works aimed at  escalating any concerns with key controls and material change programmes, relevant to data risk
    • Where delegated, support training and capability uplift for the ERM Business & Functions teams to ensure robust understanding of data risks

What you need to have to succeed in this role
    • Good level of business knowledge and data risk expertise
    • Good level of risk management knowledge and relevant experience
    • Understanding of risk management framework and the internal control environment
    • Strong technical skills related to analysis of large datasets
    • Good knowledge of Group Data Dashboards is preferable
