We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Lead Assistant Vice President - Decision Sciences 

Principal responsibilities

 A decision sciences job family member should be able to: -

  • Apply relevant analytical methods / algorithms to get actionable insights from HSBC's internal (both structured and unstructured) and external data sources
  • Partner with IT / Data Engineering teams to create deployment road-map
  • Provide actionable solutions with clear articulation of recommendations for the business stakeholders across geographies
  • Independently manage delivery of analytics projects by working with business partners across regions / geographies
  • Actively contribute in innovative analytical solutioning for improved business performance. 
  • Perform activities pertaining to First Line of defense based on the Model Risk Management Framework for FRTB SA models:
  • Model development/ validation based on best industry practice. Model calibration and monitoring
  • Assist the Risk steward functions in second line of defense activities
  • Participating in the model development cycle in conjunction with BAs and system owners
  • Provide model risk expertise of Traded Risk Products of HSBC, working in conjunction with Product Controls, Front Office, Global Markets Operations and other support and control functions. 
  • Support the model reviews by IMR, Internal and external Audit as well as regulatory visits. Implement the findings in a timely manner.    

Requirements
  • Strong quantitative background, with a degree (Masters/PhD preferred) in Statistics/ Econometrics/ Economics/Mathematical Science/Engineering/Finance
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in model development, model validation and model management.
  • Good understanding of pricing, valuation, VaR, derivative products; time series market data.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, Matlab etc.) in order to develop the models or making proof of concepts. 
  • Knowledge of numerical methods applied on these models is a definite advantage.
  • Working experience of Traded Risk models as part of model development or model validation team. .
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, including within onshore / offshore team set-ups.
  • Ability to drive results in a limited time duration and handle constant work related pressure.
  • Knowledge and exposure to cloud analytics platform such as GCP, AWS Redshift, Azure etc. would be a plus but not mandatory
  • Enthusiasm for proactively seeking, exploring and developing use cases for new data and/or tools/wider industry trends
