The role holder will be part of the Equities business franchise under Market Securities Services Operations (MSSO) umbrella.  The business covers products in the Equity Derivative (EQD) and Prime Finance areas. The scope of the EQD team in KL comprises middle office operations and includes the following activities:

Trade support function, trade validations to front office systems, cash equity/stock loan breaks, intersystem break investigation, review documentation and settlement discrepancy queries from offshore teams.   

The Opportunity:

  • You will be part of a task force responsible for trading support to the Equity Derivatives, Prime Finance, Cash Equity, Strategic Equity Financing and Private Bank Trading team. The role will cover Hong Kong and European facilitated activities under HK balance sheets.

  • Your main contacts will be trade desks and middle office teams.

  • The role will be working on Hong Kong shift with a possibility for staggered work hours.

  • This middle office desk support (MODS) role does not have any direct reports.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide trade support to the front office in Hong Kong.

  • Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    • Trade capture completeness and accuracy i.e. ensure life cycle bookings (fixing, rollover, corporate action, termination, expiry) are done by the daily auto-validation deadline, making sure inter-entity and intra-entity back to back trades are booked correctly, and short positions are covered by liaising with the relevant desks.

    • Managing inventory i.e. excess stock borrowing and liaise with trader on returning and re-borrowing stock at a lower rate.

    • Monitoring credit limits i.e. availability checks and making funding requests where needed.

    • Maintaining portfolio structures.

  • Interact with Front Office Trading and Sales, Operation teams, Product Control and external counterparties to resolve trade discrepancies and escalation issues.

  • Ability to apply judgment to operational situations in a fast paced environment to drive progress.

  • Identify potential financial risk to the bank and ensure proper resolution is achieved within the bank’s guidelines.

  • Timely escalation when necessary for issues that may cause financial loss to the bank or that could affect client relationships.

  • Ensure adequate support for effective management of KRIs, to minimise risk e.g. Nostro/Stock/inter-system breaks.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Conceptual understanding of Capital Markets.

  • Understanding of Markets Operations or Trade Desk Support function is an added advantage.

  • Has sound understanding and formal qualification of basic Operations Accounting principles.

  • Able to demonstrate the mind set and maturity to operate in a fast paced environment especially when dealing with various stakeholders.

  • Awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management.

  • Ability to implement initiatives and work as part of a team.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with clients/stakeholders.

  • Attention to detail and a hands on approach to identify opportunities of process improvement.

  • Follow formal escalation framework across all aspects of Operations, including day to day operational risks and systemic risks.

  • Strong awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage local and international relationships across the organization.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • A degree in Business or Finance would be preferred.

  • Understanding of Markets Operations is an added advantage.

  • Able to work in a demanding and time sensitive environment.

  • Hands on experience of operations processing is an advantage.
