The position requires close collaboration with finance, treasury, risk management, and other key stakeholders to support informed decision-making and risk governance.

Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance. Its purpose is to make sure HSBC understands and effectively controls its non-financial risk position, through end-to-end oversight of processes, risks, and controls and by robust stewardship of the bank's risk appetite to comply with risk, business and regulatory priorities.  It seeks to strengthen the risk culture across the organization through the application of effective policies and frameworks that drive consistent risk management practices across our businesses and functions at global, regional and market level.

In this role, you will:

•    Develop, implement, and maintain HSBC’s capital risk management framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g., Basel III, Dodd-Frank) and internal risk appetite.
•    Establish and maintain capital risk policies, procedures, and standards that guide capital management behaviours across HSBC.
•    Continuously assess and enhance the framework to respond to evolving regulatory requirements, market conditions, and organisational strategies.
•    Lead the assessment of capital adequacy, ensuring that the organization maintains sufficient capital buffers to absorb potential losses under various stress scenarios.
•    Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) related to capital management and provide regular reports to senior leadership and the HSBC UK Board.
•    Analyse scenario assessments and stress test results and develop recommendations for mitigating risks identified through these exercises and ensure that capital risk information is communicated effectively across the organization to support informed decision-making.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

•    In-depth understanding of capital risk management principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
•    Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
•    Strong leadership and team management abilities.
•    Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
•    Proficiency in risk management software and financial modelling tools.

The base location for this role is Birmingham/Sheffield/Edinburgh and with a hybrid working pattern.
