We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Security as a Platform CTO.

The success of Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) has allowed us to build on our position as one of the world’s largest and fastest growing wealth franchises. Significant effort has already been made towards the WPB strategy to deliver exceptional products, service, and experiences to our customers.

Reporting into the Security as a Platform Value Stream Tech Lead, the Security as a Platform CTO will have the responsibility for Engineering practices and Leadership of the key platforms that underpin the WPB Technology approach for our internet banking security platforms. The responsibilities of the role will include resources management, costs, operational stability, and overall resilience primarily focused on the Strategic guidance of the operational stability of the Platforms.  The position will work in partnership with Value Streams Leads to drive the best outcomes of our Platform performance to include Engineering best practices, ensuring a best in industry end to end experience and uptime of services for our customers.

 Key activities of this position include developing and delivering on Engineering and Technology strategy and roadmap for SaaP Platforms by taking in to account key technology wide priorities. Maintaining and developing best in class service resiliency and management, cloud-based technology solutions and the removal of legacy systems. The role holder will be accountable for leading the building, maintaining and 24x7 support of large-scale infrastructure, software and platform services that enable the functioning of Security as a Platform products and services across HSBC and the execution of organization wide processes or governance.

Principal responsibilities:

·       Accountable for 24x7 monitoring of production systems, ensuring service impacting alerts are executed by the appropriate support teams. 

·       Accountable for performance of end-to-end services delivered on the platforms (e.g., service availability SLA, MTTR, etc.)

·       Build strong working relationships with Product Lines and business leaders to ensure products and engineering teams meet expectations and contribute to achievement of business goals.

·       Collaborate with CIO and business leaders to develop short and long-term strategic plans.

·       Support and facilitate innovative and experimental software development work to test new ideas, within bounded cost and time frames.

·       Provide leadership, vision, and direction for the Security as a Platform engineering organization.

·       Effective collaboration of a group of Agile/DevOps pods and teams that share a common mission. 

·       Drive implementation ensuring regulatory processes and procedures are adhered to.

·       Provide governance for Platform portfolio ensuring transparency of status aligned to Global Business / Global Functions global delivery into regions/countries.

·       Develop workforce strategy to meet the organization’s current and future engineering needs through developing, hiring, and/or sourcing talent.

·       Work with the CISO and CTO Risk team to ensure infrastructure and developed software is effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.

·       Improve technology stability and resiliency i.e., leading adoption and new ways of working whilst managing the risk of service outages.

 Stakeholders – Internal and External

·       Manage an effective relationship with partners and third-party vendor to ensure successful uptime and efficient cost management.

·       Creates and manages strong and trusted working relationship inside and outside of WPB through strong relationships within the broader HSBC group.

·       WPB Security as a Platform representation in relevant technology and business executive forums that are focused on Platform stability.

·       Lead the roll out of new ways of operating and the skills development across the Engineering capability within Security as a Platform.

 

Leadership & Teamwork

·       Optimise resources globally to create an integrated team leveraging the capabilities of staff in both central and regional teams.

·       Manage the efforts of global teams including all aspects of data processing design, development, acquisition, testing, conversion, and production support.

·       Promote technology sharing and leverage operating environments to achieve greater cost efficiency.

·       Lead and develop an effective global team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.

·       Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.

·       Able to manage multiple applications to tight budget and time frames.

 

 Operational Effectiveness & Control

·       Ensure technology goals are identified, communicated, documented, agreed and delivered in the most cost-effective manner possible through to the completion of the successful pilot deployment.

·       Identifying key risks, issues and interdependencies and provide appropriate mitigation strategies.

·       Supporting audit / independent programme assessments as required

·       Ensure HSBC is not put at any operational or reputational risk.

  • To respond to constantly increasing regulatory demands within existing capability and capacity constraints.
  • To stay abreast of external developments in global regulation, market trends and competitor activity.
  • To challenge the status quo with peers across Technology leadership teams, as well as counterparts in GBGFs.
  • To capture, leverage and promote best practice methodologies and tools, based on lessons learned across WPB teams globally and on standards established by Global IT horizontals (e.g., Design and Application Development & Maintenance, IT Security, IT Risk, IT COO).

Role Context

  • Promote re-use of readily built platform solutions and global components.
  • Manage end to end Engineering delivery of underlying technology capabilities for WPB Technology.
  • Primary reporting relationship is to the Security as a Platform Value Stream Tech Lead.
  • Works closely with WPB Technology CIOs, COO, Value Stream Leads and Sub Value Stream leads.
  • Responsible for everyday performance management for all functional reports globally.
  • Direct and indirect team responsibility of reports in multiple locations.
  • Work distributed broadly across Group locations to optimise staff capabilities and offshore cost opportunities

  • Also, by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.

 Role Dimensions 

  • Security as a Platform CTO across WPB Enabler Platforms covering – 300-500 people.
  • Faceoff and stakeholder management to WPB Technology and WPB Business partners
Requirements

Requirements:

  • 10-15 years of experience working in agile environments, using DevSecOps tools and processes
  • Prior & relevant Experience leading geographically distributed teams ideally in a bank or global organization.
  • Strong stakeholder management with ability to influence and communicate with impact, drive conversations with key stakeholders and larger teams across regions.
  • Strong understanding of the design and development practices for the Authentication and Authorization of Internet Banking system.
  • Large scale and complex enterprise planning capabilities.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships at all levels of the organization.
  • 10-15 experience on software development methodologies and best practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools and platforms (e.g., cloud platforms, web technologies, client-server technologies, continuous integration, and deployment), with an eagerness to learn about new and unfamiliar technologies.
  • Experience managing relationships with vendors and has been previously involved in contract negotiation and execution. 
  • People management experience is essential, the role holder will oversee a span of resources; this will be a mix of perm & contract staff.
  • Commercially aware and understands platforms, services and underlying processes to fulfill these needs.
  • Managing operational functions, directing process re-engineering and efficiency exercises
  • Strong ability to balance risks vs. rewards and maximizing the cost effectiveness and profitability for the business.
  • Respectful of different cultures, working with colleagues from across all 5 regions (North America, LATAM, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe
  • Strong track record of leading digital technology engineering teams within a retail / consumer industry, preferably at scale and across global markets.
  • Strong data driven decisions delivering operational effectiveness.

 Candidate with less relevant experience or skills may be offered a lower Global Career Band than stated above.
