Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market, and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight, and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth. 

Role Overview:
In addition to Credit Underwriting, this role will be responsible for credit risk oversight across all MENAT wholesale portfolio. As such, in addition to credit underwriting skills, the incumbent will need to demonstrate broader, strategic portfolio understanding plus balance both firmness and agility in ensuring excesses, past dues and other account behaviour issues are handled promptly.
Accountable for Wholesale Credit Risk Management (WCRM) covering assigned UAE Corporates portfolio including Credit Underwriting by taking credit decisions that are aligned with internal and external Guidelines.
The incumbent will also be the primary lead for the development and enhancement of credit risk oversight activities across MENAT.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Impact on the Business
•    Credit Underwriting – personally exercise delegated lending authority and take credit decisions that ensure well balanced Risk/Reward and are aligned to HSBC Risk Appetite.
•    Portfolio risk management – Manage overall asset quality of assigned portfolio by identifying trends and initiating risk mitigation measures, tracking High Risk Problem Exposures, challenging Worry/Watch/Monitor accounts, managing Non-Performing Accounts (NPAs) and ensuring timely impairments. 
•    Responsible for day-to-day oversight of MENAT wholesale portfolio, including leading Exception Management meetings, reviewing and refining oversight framework.
•    Develop, monitor and review effectiveness of Key Risk Indicators and MI reports, working closely with Business, Group WCR and MENAT Policy
•    Collaborate with Global risk stewardship teams and WCR steward based in offshore Centre of Excellence (CoE) to ensure issues are identified early and correctly captured on Helios.
•    Audit & read across – work collaboratively across all 3 Lines of Defence, ensure UAE audit issues are addressed promptly and with appropriate read-across from other audits.
Customers / Stakeholders 
•    Meet key UAE clients and actively participate in key UAE clients’ Account Planning with GRB.
•    Provide effective challenges and early-stage guidance to Business in complex transactions in a timely, open-minded and decisive manner.
•    Escalate to MENAT Head of WCRM and MENAT Head of Corporate Credit Risk any emerging issue in MENAT wholesale portfolio e.g. recurring past dues in any specific country. 
•    Provide credit risk oversight and steer to Business monitoring of credit risk, partnering with Risk teams in FLOD to ensure appropriate focus on daily excess reports.
•    Establish and maintain strong rapport with Business. 
Leadership & Teamwork 
•    Work effectively and collaboratively with Business, regional Risk teams and other cross functional regional teams.
•    Provide guidance and act as ‘buddy’ to CoE desk officer designated to the incumbent’s portfolio.
•    This role has a strong ‘culture’ element, in ensuring there is the right culture of accountability i.e. RMs follow up on their clients’ excesses promptly, issues are acknowledged and recorded, etc. The incumbent will need to lead by example.
Operational Effectiveness & Control 
•    Sceptically review credit processes and ensure these are simple and streamlined.
•    Provide guidance and input for all wholesale credit risk matters across policy, oversight, risk stewardship, models, initiatives, etc. 
•    Keep the customer at the heart of all decisions, deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.

Requirements

Experience & Qualifications:
•    Graduate preferably with additional qualifications such as MBA / ACA / CFA / ACIB.
•    Minimum 5 years corporate lending experience, as a Credit Officer and/or Corporate Banking Relationship Manager, preferably across multiple geographies. 
•    Technical skills: proven financial analysis skills, interpreting balance sheet and P&L, stress-testing cashflows, etc. 
•    Ability to understand, consolidate and apply critical thinking to complex business information in order to identify and mitigate risks. 
•    Ability to cultivate strong relationships with Business, at all levels, as well as various Partners including Legal, Products, Group. 
•    Ability to handle and present challenging proposals to senior management in a clear and succinct manner.
•    Experience in and understanding of the UAE market will be an advantage, as well as experience in risk stewardship, non-financial risk or providing risk oversight. 
•    Aside from technical skills and experience, the jobholder will be self-driven & curious, commercial, comfortable in handling difficult conversations but also in taking pragmatic decisions.
•    Graduation degree is REQUIRED– to secure a UAE Visa and Work Permit
