The team you’ll work with:

 

Our second line of defence risk team provide independent oversight by challenging and supporting the first line in managing risks inherent with HSBC Innovation Banking business activity. Acting as a secure control function, they ensure all activities undertaken on the companies’ behalf can be reported on and are aligned with HSBC Innovation Banking’s prescribed risk appetite, as well as comply with local and Group level regulatory and compliance requirements. In this role, you’ll report into the Head of Financial Risk Management and Model Risk and have a specific Second Line oversight responsibility for Market Risk and Interest Rate in the Banking Book (IRRBB).

 

The value you’ll add:

Working in a fast paced, high transacting environment, as a Senior Risk Manager Focused Market Risk and IRRBB you’ll play an integral role in helping to manage the risks associated with market fluctuations and interest rate movements. Working closely with treasury risk, you’ll provide Second Line oversight on IRRBB and Market Risk of the UK Bank whilst also providing support on oversight activities in the other risk disciplines, namely Capital, Liquidity, Model and Financial Reporting and Tax Risk. If you have a background within Market Risk, with expertise in IRRBB, ALM and Balance Sheet Management, and would like to continue your development both in Market Risk and a broader range of both Financial and Non-Financial risk disciplines within a client and employee centric Bank, with ambitious growth plans, this role might just be for you!

 

What you can expect to be doing:

Acting as 2LOD Risk Steward for the management of Market Risk covering IRRBB, Transactional Foreign Exchange and Equity Warrants, which will include:

Ensuring Treasury First Line of Defence (“1LOD”) are aligning the management of IRRBB and Market Risk to the HSBC Risk Policies and providing 2LOD sign-off for the risk and control assessments.

Providing Subject Matter Expertise on Market Risk and IRRBB, ensuring that industry developments and best practice are captured within the management of Market Risk and IRRBB by the 1LOD.

Working with cross functional stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of market risk and IRRBB across the Bank are understood, reported and managed within limits.  This will involve developing stakeholder relationships across the Bank, understanding of the product booking model and analytical analysis of 1LOD risk reporting to ensure that the risks are captured and reported appropriately.

Highlighting emerging risks associated with Market Risk and IRRBB arising from external factors such as regulatory change or market conditions and internal factors such as product development, change programmes or changes in the control environment.

Reviewing the impact on Market Risk and IRRBB arising from the introduction of new products or changes in existing products and providing 2LOD sign-off as part of the product due diligence process to confirm that Market Risk and IRRBB are understood, measured, and monitored.

Requirements

The experience you need:

Relevant experience and/or business, Economics or Accounting qualification.

 

Significant experience working in Market Risk in 1LOD or 2LOD functions, with strong knowledge in IRRBB methodologies.

A good understanding of the Balance Sheet and P&L, including accounting implications.

Exposure to liquidity, capital and/or model risk would be advantageous.

Strong communication and presentation abilities, including strong written and verbal skills and the ability to explain issues and decisions, as well as strategy, both internally and externally. 

Highly numerate with excellent Excel skills, and the ability to investigate/manipulate/model data quickly, find trends and provide recommendations.

Extensive experience of working on multiple projects with an ability to adapt to an ever-changing landscape of deliverables.
