We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join the Country Legal team. As Senior Legal Counsel, working alongside experienced colleagues, you will provide expert and professional legal advice, guidance, and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by HSBC Korea are identified, reported, and mitigated. This role will report to the Country General Counsel.
In this role, you will:
- Partner with the banking and securities businesses to develop and execute strategies to navigate a complex financial regulatory environment and material legal issues businesses may face
- Advise relevant management on non-standard legal and reputational risks
- Provide support and guidance to assigned departments and the Regional / Country Legal Function with regard to legal risks arising in the relevant area of expertise
- Execute against policies and procedures for the relevant area of businesses to ensure proper execution of Legal's role in the second line of defence
Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer with relevant experience at a comparable financial institution or law firm, with a strong of understanding of Korea’s regulatory changes and their implementation (ideally including banking and securities businesses-related developments)
- Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at different levels of seniority, with the ability to build relationships by communicating, influencing and negotiating effectively with stakeholders/customers
- Practical and pragmatic, with the ability to appropriately balance legal risks with commercial considerations
- A self-starter who is able to work independently, prioritise effectively, and support complex matters with limited supervision
- Open to both Korean and Foreign lawyer, but Korean lawyer preferrable
- 3-5 years of experience in financial industry preferred
