Here at HSBC Australia we have an exciting opportunity for a new Head of Financial Reporting for Australia & New Zealand to join us in taking the reins for our Financial Reporting over both countries at the Country, Regional and Global levels. The role, based in Barangaroo and reporting into our Technical Functional Lead, will provide direction to the Financial Reporting teams across Australia and New Zealand (in-country) and be the main point of contact for supporting teams located in the Global Service Centre (off-shore).


Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for full end-to-end financial reporting activities including Operational Accounting processes in-country (period end close, accounting controls and balance sheet reconciliation/ substantiation).
  • Responsible for the Financial Accounting activities within the teams (securitisation accounting/reporting, resolving accounting issues, and supporting resolution of key accounting judgements around ECL, provisions and non-financial asset impairment).
  • Responsible for the Financial Reporting activities at both country level (local statutory financial statements and month-end reporting) and
  • Regional/Global level (Group reporting and implementing global solutions for new products and accounting requirements). 
  • Playing a lead role in evolving the ways of working across all teams involved in the month end process.
  • Being the key interface with the external auditors for local and Group reporting.
  • Deputising for the Financial Controller as required and supporting the CFO as necessary.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Recognised relevant professional accountancy qualification is essential.
  • Significant accounting experience in a financial services environment or large corporate.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of IFRS.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Operational Accounting processes, risk management and controls.
  • Proven leadership capability with experience of creating, developing and leading teams across jurisdictions and driving high performance culture.
  • Ability to drive change to improve existing process and procedures.
  • Ability to make robust/tough decisions which may be contrary to the business wishes, deal with and resolve unstructured problems, and prioritize competing demands.
  • Strong awareness of IT and data and the ability to drive efficient processes.


Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
