As part of the Global Markets Operations strategic model, HSBC have created a global center for Operations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Manila, Philippines. The center supports multiple products and legal entities, supporting business critical functions whilst their partners in the onshore hubs concentrate on functions which require proximity to business or clients. The primary purpose of this role is to manage and support the Clearing & Settlements – Global Services Centre (GSC) Operations in with Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or Manila, Philippines of circa plus 200+ Full Time Employee (FTE). Given the diverse mix of products, the regulatory environment, the time zone and the balance sheets, this is a senior role part of the Clearing & Settlements (C&S) in Market Securities Services (MSS) Operations management team.

Over and above the daily Operations responsibilities, the following are key attributes and responsibilities form this role:

Delivery:

  • Takes ownership and accountability of complex issues/exceptions/queries and acquires the knowledge needed to resolve them (e.g. understand the root cause for any operations incidents and remediate, tax, risk, technical expertise needed, and uses this to resolve issues.).
  • Leverages the expertise needed to resolve issues/exceptions/queries, through explaining the business rationale and facts, and justifying urgency. Influences others to help deliver results.
  • Does not leave issues unmanaged or incomplete. Factors risk and control implications into actions. If results are threatened, takes actions to communicate, escalate and remedy the situation.

Business Improvement:

  • Uses deep expertise (Data) to create proposals for defined process efficiencies, cost saving efforts, process guidance, training etc. Gains approval by selling these ideas tenaciously to management and peers.
  • Demonstrates active involvement in projects and programmes delivering useful improvements to systems, business process or performance.
  • Contributes actively to meetings/conference calls and ensures that their perspective is included in decision making on business improvements, efficiency gains or change initiatives.
  • Questions the status quo at all times.

People:

  • Articulates expectations and encourages performance from colleagues, project teams, virtual teams.
  • Uses formal and informal approaches to deliver performance (e.g. process targets, review against project objectives, giving informal feedback to peers regularly.)

What you’ll do:

Impact on the Business/Function:

  • Adherence to Key Risk Indicator (KRI) & Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets as set by MSS Operations.
  • Deliver risk & control framework.
  • Cost review & rationalization.
  • Change management & process improvement.
  • Support delivery of MSS Operations led initiatives & changes.
  • Support delivery of Market-led initiatives.
  • Partner and Input into operating model strategy.
  • Deliver offshoring strategy.

Customers / Stakeholders:

  • Partner with Risk Managers across global sites to ensure joined up and consistent approach to risk and controls.
  • Work with Global Businesses to ensure that the framework is consistent across Securities and Global in nature.
  • Create strong risk & control environment from junior team members through to management team.
  • Support formal escalation framework across all aspects of Operations, including day to day operational risks and systemic risks.
  • Partner with Audit and Compliance regionally to resolve high audit items, deliver prompt resolution and actions, and take ownership where appropriate; and liaise with relevant Business stream to provide updates and transparency.

Operations:

  • Ensure daily operational efficiency by overseeing and close monitoring of the operational processes and workflow, market specific requirements/procedures and performance of various systems in securities processing.
  • Monitor the process productivity to ensure quality targets are achieved. Issues/problems are fully analyzed and resolved or escalated. Appropriate action is taken to prevent recurrence.
  • To acquire a broad understanding of the settlement processes and to keep abreast with the latest developments in the assigned markets on the rules & regulations by the regulators, stock exchange and etc that may have implication to the daily settlement processes.
  • To have a tight control to prevent any operational losses by establishing methods and check points to scrutinize exceptions/errors and to prevent potentially fraudulent situations through strong internal audit and staff feedback mechanisms.
  • To smoother the impact of erratic workflows/volumes through effective capacity planning, leave management and process prioritization by allocating/reallocating resources across the various markets.
  • Ensure knowledge retention in the section by reinforcing concepts through continuous staff training and cross training across the various markets. (To address the effects of attrition). 
  • Procedural changes/new initiatives are fully communicated to and implemented by the team. Team members consistently maintain a high level of customer service by achieving established Service Level Agreement (SLA)s.
  • To co-ordinate and assist the management team while initiating business recovery measures. To monitor Operational Risks and implement risk mitigating plans.

Requisitos

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Strong understanding of the MSS Operations and trade lifecycle processes.
  • Experienced operations professional with significant exposure to managing operations and deal with stakeholders across global region.
  • Ability to work in a virtual team environment and support multiple functions and stakeholders globally.
  • Strong awareness and appreciation to operations risk and control and exception management.
  • Ability to work cohesively with multiple stakeholders as part of a global management team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage local and international relationships across an
  • organization.
  • Attention to detail and a hands-on approach to management of work with local managers, driving
  • process change and improve efficiency and control.
  • Familiar working knowledge of associated technology.
  • The job holder would be expected to do an APAC/ UK shift, with a potential rotation to do other shifts if required.

  • Knowledge of MS Office coupled with good numerical and analytical skills – be able to understand, analyze, and communicate data in a concise, logical and visually stimulating form. 
  • Evidence of leadership skills, with a keen ability to build rapport and relationships with a wide and varied stakeholder base.
  • Ability to speak and understand English fluently with exceptional business communication skills.
  • Ability to see the big picture and drive strategic objectives without losing attention to detail.
  • Able perform well in a high-pressure environment against tight timelines.
