Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Capital & Strategic Planning Risk Manager.

Principal Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled individual to join our team as a Capital and Strategic Planning Risk Manager. This is a crucial second line of defence role, responsible for providing effective risk oversight and challenge across the organization's finance function.  This is a highly visible and critical role within the organization, offering an exciting opportunity to shape the risk management strategy and contribute to the long-term success of HSBC.

Role Purpose

Treasury Risk is the risk of having insufficient capital, liquidity or funding resources to meet financial obligations and satisfy regulatory requirements, including the risk of adverse impact on earnings or capital due to structural foreign exchange exposures and changes in market interest rates, together with pension and insurance risk.

HSBC carries out a Financial Resource Planning (FRP) process to ensure that the bank’s strategic plans are rigorous, realistic and allocates sufficient resources to deliver the bank’s strategy.  This role holder provides effective risk oversight to the HSBC Asia FRP process.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate the end-to-end risk oversight of the regional FRP as part of the yearly planning cycle in line with Global 2LoD Financial Forecasting Review and Challenge Target Operating Model (hereafter referred to as ‘2LoD FF R&C TOM’), ensuring that the organization's asset allocation strategies are aligned with its risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and broader financial objectives; present key findings and commercial insights from these reviews to the HBAP Treasury Risk Steward
  • In doing so, cultivate enduring mutually beneficial partnerships with the Regional Risk Steward community and Business CROs
  • Provide regional input and feedback to support the Global and Regional Treasury Risk Heads to develop, operationalise, and embed a risk-based Global Financial Forecasting Framework which clearly defines minimum forecasting roles and responsibilities across HSBC’s Three Lines of Defence to ensure effective risk identification, measurement, monitoring and reporting mechanisms are in-place
  • Support the development of the ‘2LoD FF R&C TOM’ which clearly maps the R&C responsibilities of Risk Stewards and/or Business CROs to the individual core processes that make-up the end-to-end forecasting process
  • Conduct rigorous risk assessments and provide independent challenge on significant strategic transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions (M&A), divestitures, and major capital investments, ensuring that potential risks are identified, quantified, and adequately mitigated
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to financial risk management, including capital adequacy, liquidity risk, and IRRBB.
  • Foster a strong risk culture within the finance function and across the organization, promoting risk awareness, escalation, and effective risk management practices
  • Influence the development and implementation of analytics and modelling techniques used in the finance function
  • Scope, coordinate and support 2LoD assurance of forecasting controls
  • Shape, review and challenge Risk & Control Assessments related to forecasting controls
  • Support internal and external audits of the forecasting framework
Requisitos
  • Deep understanding of risk management principles, frameworks, and methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative risk assessment techniques
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, stress testing, and risk analytics
  • Fundamental knowledge of the key drivers of Credit Risk, Market Risk and Operational Risk RWAs
  • Proven track record in leading and managing cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Relevant 2LoD and/or internal/external audit experience with the ability to provide effective review and challenge in a professional and constructive manner
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively communicate risk insights and recommendations to senior management and executive-level audiences.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; must be a creative problem solver
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to financial risk management
  • Tertiary degree in a relevant field, such as finance, economics, risk management, or a related quantitative discipline, is highly desirable
  • Professional certifications (e.g. FRM, CFA, PRM) are advantageous
  • Whilst not essential, firsthand experience with data manipulation software languages (SQL and etc.) and analytical software languages (Python, R, SAS, MATLAB and etc.) and data visualization tools (Qlik sense, Tableau and etc.) will be looked upon favourably

When applying, please submit a full resume and attach your appraisal reports for the last two performance years. Your local internal application policy should be followed.
