The Clearing and Settlements function is a utility within the MSS Operations construct that provides post trade settlement capabilities that focuses on the core custody services – Global Custody, Direct Custody and Treasury servicing the Custody and Markets Operations functional divisions for Securities Services and Global Markets business. The defined service catalogue facilitates support through the lifecycle of a trade and promotes quality output unpinned by strong risk management.

The Central Utility function within the Clearing and Settlements function carries out activities that are not aligned to the functional target operating model specific to tasks such as Static Data, Tax, Reconciliation, Fee Billing etc. globally and inclusive of where the locations are supported in the GSC.


The Opportunity:

This is a processing and people management role based in the Philippines GSC and will report to the Vice President of Operations in Clearing and Settlements Central Utility team.

The position requires the individual to ensure that the team completes all static data and system maintenance, monitoring and processing of client instructions, fee billing and management reports are properly executed and delivered as per agreed service level agreement (SLA)/service standards of clients. The individual is expected to uphold set service standards at all times and initiate and pursue service improvements/process efficiencies.

Impact on the Business
  • Ensure strict adherence to the various risk and HSBC polices that exist within MSS.
  • Manage and deliver services in accordance with the functional and sector Service Level Agreements
  • Support reduction of requirement for manual data activities being performed across Clearing and Settlements.
  • Support current and future capacity and efficiency data to measure process improvement.
  • Operate data driven deep dives - snapshot on an exceptional basis.
  • Standardize activities not aligned to the Clearing & Settlements target operating model to a suitable state where it can be moved to the appropriate utility within the MSS Ops.
Customers / Stakeholders
  • Connectivity to the Risk Stewards Community and becomes a trusted partner to our clients (both internal & external).
  • Drives partnership with Technology and other support functions to achieve seamless execution of the Clearing & Settlements aligned products.
  • Manage interaction with the clients, including involvement in client Due Diligence visits.
Internal Control Environment
  • Delivering operational excellence utilizing metrics management tooling deployed across all products and jurisdictions.
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy and maintain awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring.
  • Streamline operational procedures to minimize cost, enhance system automation and ensures service quality and productivity.
  • Protect the interests of the Bank and manage operational risk.
  • Execution of operational activities within client Service Level Agreements
Leadership & Teamwork
  • Lead a large and diverse team towards achieving strategic objectives, delivering client service excellence.
  • Ability to manage multiple streams of work at once covering different topics and stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop management and leadership capability.

What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • University degree level, or equivalent practical experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of HSBC, Global Banking and Markets and Custody activities across the underlying disciplines.
  • Exposure to Direct Custody & Clearing, Global Custody, Treasury Operations products and processes, as well as Static Data, Reconciliations, Fee Billing, Tax.
  • Strong risk and control background.
  • Ability to navigate through the organization, processes and objectives related to the role scope.
  • Ability to multi-task and deliver on concurrent initiatives and priorities.
  • Self reliant - able to operate at a detailed level and with minimal need for intervention.
  • Use judgement and experience to manage complex challenges through to resolution.
