Financial Crime (FC) Function is a Second Line of Defence (2LOD) function that includes “Risk Stewards” who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “First Line of Defence” or “1LOD”). The FC Function also operates a set of critical controls on behalf of the FLOD by harnessing intelligence, analytics, technology, detection and investigation. The Risk Stewards are responsible for providing subject matter expertise, advise, guidance and effective challenge to the FLOD to ensure that, as Risk and Control owners, they effectively manage the FC risks for which they are responsible. FC risk is a non-financial risk that includes ‘Fraud’, ‘Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, Proliferation Financing’, ‘Bribery and Corruption’, ‘Sanctions or Export Controls Breaches’, and ‘Tax Evasion’. The FC function operates in accordance with HSBC Group’s Risk Management Framework (RMF).
The Opportunity:
The Role holder will carry out activities that will include most of the following, but not limited to:
- Risk Stewardship: support SME risk steward oversight, check & challenge of Group AML risks, controls, issues, actions, and metrics utilising systems and data flows including Helios, Assurance, Audit, RAPID2 and FCRMI. Performing targeted and thematic analysis on areas of heightened risk or where there is an increased focus supporting both onshore and COE Group AML risk stewards.
- Executive reporting: support executive reporting responsibilities across activities such as Risk Map, KCI/KRI commentary, governance updates. Perform analysis and work with risk stewards to draft commenary.
- AML governance: coordinate and secretariat governance owned and managed by the Group AML team.
- AML Non-Financial Risk responsibilities: support NFR requirements for Group AML as required, including (but not limited to) economic capital, Risk Taxonomy and Control Library refresh, Continuous Monitoring Plans etc.
- Functional support: Supporting day to day activities, including where required adminstrative tasks, to faciliate the running of the Group AML team.
- General support: Support Group AML risk stewards in any ongoing initiatives and programmes at the Group levelThe job holder will be reporting to the Vice President, Financial Crime Risk Stewardship – COE supporting Global / Regional FC teams.
What you’ll do:
The Role holder will carry out activities that will include most of the following, but not limited to:
- Keeping abreast with the industry best practices and challenges within similar operating environments that would support the bank in maintaining a sustainable, highly effective, and commercially efficient controls for across Group AML areas, i.e. AML, ABC & Tax.
- Support the overall AML goals and enhance the bank’s ability to deter, detect and protect against financial crime risks.
- Work closely with relevant stakeholders within Group, Regions, Functions (including DBS) and ServCo to provide expertise and support on financial crime related matters.
- Governance and Reporting: Active and meaningful participations and contributions in our governance structure
- Liaise with relevant stakeholder within Global / Regional AML and relevant teams to provide expertise and support on all FC risk related matters. Ensure that appropriate, timely and relevant risk information is provided to stakeholders and Risk Management forums.
- Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with senior business managers at the Group and Regional levels. Lead by example, demonstrating excellent behaviors in line with HSBC core values.

What you will need to succeed in the role:
- The jobholder must have exposure and work experience in the banking and financial industry.
- Fair understanding of how FC controls mitigate FC Risk and the various underpinning activities forming the overall Risk Management framework.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to make informed risk-based decisions with robust supporting rationale.
- Working knowledge of the Global Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Framework and Technical User Guides (TUG) – Preferred
- Working knowledge of the line of business / function supported, as well as pertinent compliance risk policies and regulations.
- Interpersonal Skills (i.e., collaboration and networking) with experience of dealing with stakeholders including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management.
- Excellent communication skill (oral, written, and presentational) with the ability to influence others through use of compelling facts, thought-provoking discussion and logic and use diplomacy and tact to resolve differing views.
- Experience of interpreting and analyzing a large volume of information and / or data and provide succinct summary for management.
- Understanding of Compliance systems and HELIOS is an advantage, good command of Excel and Power Point.
- Ability to lead change, contributing to joining up with the other teams in Risk and Compliance and Business globally.
- Ability to work independently on distinct tasks, escalating as appropriate and able to "connect the dots" and critically analyze situations, recommend effective solutions to problems, and identify or anticipate regulatory concerns.
- Effective Time management & prioritization skills with an ability to prioritize competing demands and deliver against stringent deadlines.
- Knowledge in MS Office Suite, MS PowerPoint & Excel is mandatory.
What additional skills will be good to have?
- Experience in Risk, Operations and/or Business management.
- Desirable understanding of the HSBC structure, its business, and HSBC’s corporate culture.
- Strong understanding of the various underpinning activities within the Risk Management framework.
