The GCIO Chief Control Office (CCO) team plays an important role in enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite by ensuring efficient and effective risk and control management. We do this by providing operational risk and control expertise, specialist technical knowledge and a deep understanding of the businesses and functions we serve. 

Key activities include implementation and oversight of the Group’s Risk Management Framework, ongoing and targeted controls assessments, implementing and maintaining robust risk governance, and championing a proactive risk culture. GCIO CCO works closely with partners across all lines of defence and is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with our regulators and external partners. 

The role holder will be responsible for:
    • Delivering a Control MI and Reporting service to the GCIO function.
    • Leading within the GCIO Chief Control Office (GCIO CCO) Shared Services Function.
    • Continuously improving products and services that enable efficient technology risk and control management across HSBC. 

Your strategic goal is to deliver the highest quality insight on technology risks and controls on a monthly basis to your customer base to support HSBC manage its operational risk position.


What you’ll do
    • Building and coaching a high performing multi-disciplinary team of engineers and service managers to deliver high colleague satisfaction with the products and capabilities you own.
    • Setting the annual strategy for your products, services and people to continuously raise the bar on quality of features, operation and career outcomes.
    • Providing product expertise and ownership through proactive customer engagement, empowering the team to contribute and deliver iterative improvements, and prioritising the team’s capacity to the biggest value driving solutions. Advising and designing products, processes, and services in a commercially viable, practical and effective manner. Identifying trends to anticipate future developments in the risk and control environment.
    • Providing Senior Management with updates on any relevant challenges to implementing adequate and reliable products and services across the GCIO function. Facing off to senior management and driving the GCIO function to the products and services you are accountable for.
    • Presenting and reporting complex risk and control information in ways that are meaningful for different stakeholders.
    • Applying professional understanding, expertise and judgement to oversee the health of the products and services you are accountable for. 
    • Leveraging opportunities to implement more automated, effective and cost-efficient products and processes. Providing advice, support and challenge to stakeholders to help them understand and use your products and services effectively. Proactively engage your customers and broader stakeholders for requirements and feedback on your products and services to drive continuous improvement.

What you need to have to succeed in this role
    • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with one or more or the control capabilities in the Technology and Cyber domain either directly or as a 1/2/3LOD control management function 
    • At least 5 years of hands-on experience and subject matter expertise in management of operational risk, non-financial risk and/or technology and information security risk. 
    • Experience of service ownership, product definition, product delivery and operational excellence is necessary.
    • Previous experience of identifying, defining and solving problems that have impact on your work or the wider business.
    • Proven track record of process improvement and delivering as promised. Financial Services or other highly regulated industry experience/exposure is preferred.
    • Strong communication skills to influence and challenge stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    • Ability to present complex issues concisely to senior partners using non-technical language.
    • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
    • Flexible and adaptable, able to handle and prioritise competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
    • Active industry recognized certificates will be an asset, e.g. CISA, CISSP, CRISC, CCSP etc.
