Asset Servicing is a utility within the MSS Operations organization that supports the Securities Services and Global Markets businesses. The function covers the suite of capabilities associated with the capture, processing, reconciliation of events and claims. This role provides a leadership opportunity aligned to the management and oversight of the Asset Servicing team in the Philippines GSC - supporting the Asia region. It focuses heavily on ensuring the delivery of quality output, enhancing process through the use of technology and developing enriched knowledge across the asset class. The requirement is deemed as critical given the nature and volatility of the underlying instruments. As such, a high level of subject matter expertise is key, with the selected candidate also requiring a strong risk and control ethic. There will be a need to work independently against the prescribed objectives as well as being able to navigate across the Asset Servicing, MSS Operations and Securities Services network to achieve the appropriate results for the group.


The Opportunity:

The Vice President for Asset Servicing is accountable for the management of the daily operational processing and output. Critical to the role is ensuring the delivery of quality results that align to service level agreements and comply with the firm’s policies and risk standards. It is important that the successful candidate is actively involved in creating a change culture and is contributing to both tactical and strategic objectives aligned to the group. In addition
  • To drive and champion a proactive risk aware group that is successful in the delivery of strong outcomes that are exceeding service level agreements and comply with firm and regulatory standards.
  • To work with key stakeholders to ensure that potential challenges associated with manual processing, client and product bespoke offering and systemic gaps are well documented with a clear understanding of remediation requirements.
  • Partner with Strategy and Change to promote the opportunities to automate and create efficiency through the process. Develop a culture of challenge through the lens of high-risk manual processing.
  • Develop a team of experts across the asset servicing product. This is inclusive of building out market, event and platform knowledge.
The role requires a high standard of Asset Servicing experience with exposure to multiple markets across the Asia region. There is a need to be into the detail and effective in articulating scenarios and outcomes to senior management across the network. This includes but not limited to KRI out turn, processing incidents etc. This is a leadership position and as such requires a positive influence, driving accountability and developing talent across the team.


What you’ll do:
  • To ensure that relevant controls are understood and discharged in the appropriate manner to solidify the risk profile of the group. Be proactive in challenging potential scenarios or processes to identify, document and escalate high risk themes.
  • Effectively drive and champion a change ethic across the team. Interlock with varying internal parties to identify opportunities across the processing stack that promotes efficiency and strengthens the risk profile.
  • Work closely with the client services teams to understand client requirements and relevant feedback on service levels. Actively engage with stakeholders to ensure standards are being delivered and equally call out where client behavior is not aligned to the firm’s protocols.

What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • A post-graduate diploma or degree in any discipline. Higher qualification and experience are commensurate with the position.
  • Very detailed understanding of Asset Servicing across the Custody and Funds business lines.
  • Aligned to the above, exposure to the multiple markets that Asset Servicing operates in.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end Asset Servicing landscape, inclusive of policy, process and underlying technology.
  • Strategic mindset – willingness to challenge and assess opportunities to create efficiency and strengthen the groups risk profile.
  • Highly collaborative with a need to engage and influence across number of groups both internal to HSBC.
  • Effective at influencing at a senior management level whilst being able to work independently to achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Leveraging data and analytics to drive the robust decisions aligned to the objectives of the role.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence outside of a direct reporting line. Balance and flexibility required with both a direct and empathic approach needed.
  • Able to represent on senior management governance and oversight forums with the ability to appropriately represent and Asset Servicing view – position.
