The Finance teams at HSBC provide the bank with internal and external financial reporting, forecasting, controls oversight and stress testing expertise. Specialist areas also manage HSBC’s worldwide tax affairs, group treasury needs, and events for investors and analysts.

The Head of ALCM is responsible for managing the balance sheet (across 3 entities in Australia and New Zealand) and enhancing profitability by achieving efficient allocation and utilisation of capital and liquidity, while ensuring prudent management of risks (funding and liquidity, structural interest rate risk, compliance, regulatory, reputation etc.). The Head of ALCM is also responsible for the Australia residential mortgage securitisation program. 

This role is required to work directly with local regulators (APRA, RBNZ, RBA).  Additionally, the role holder must work with external stakeholders (S&P, Fitch, Perpetual), and local EXCO. The role holder acts as a delegate for the CFO. This position is a member of the Finance EXCO holding a senior leadership position, managing a team of 10 (GCB4 and GCB5) and interacting with local senior stakeholders inclusive of EXCO, Board and regulators. The successful applicant will act as a delegate for the CFO and has delegated responsibilities in supporting the CFO to ensure accountabilities under the Australian “Financial Accountability Regime (FAR)” are appropriately managed.


Responsibilities:

  • Manages the asset, liability and capital structure across three entities (a subsidiary and a foreign branch of HBAP in AU and NZ) by ensuring funding, liquidity, concentration and structural interest rate risks are in line with HSBC’s strategy and risk appetite, and applicable regulatory requirements 
  • Includes all forms of ALCM advisory, reporting and regulatory compliance
  • Involves strong interactive engagement with group / regional ALCM, local businesses, functions and stakeholders with a clear understanding of group strategy and risk appetite
  • Independent decision making, guidance and driving the implementation of appropriate actions and important initiatives in managing the ALCM risks, with some oversight by CFO and Regional Head of ALCM on significant matters. 
  • Influences funding, liquidity, capital and interest rate risks management strategy as well as strategic direction of the regional or global ALCM function and ALCM risks profile. Implement global/regional ALCM strategy.
  • Advises the Business and senior management on the regulatory impacts on liquidity, funding and capital. Ensure Businesses and senior management are aware of the impacts of changes to local regulatory liquidity, interest rate risk and capital adequacy requirements
  • Provide SME input into the HSBC response to APRA consultations around liquidity, funding and capital management.
  • Represents HSBC views at industry body lobbies relating to ALCM subjects.
Requisitos

Requirements:

  • Significant relevant professional work experience in a similar big four or enterprise financial entity.
  • An undergraduate or post graduate degree, preferably in Accounting and Finance. Professional Accounting Qualification will be mandatory.
  • Subject matter expertise in ALCM. Understands and anticipates strategic implications from regulations to business. A high level of professional competence which helps to advise business on risks exposures.
  • Strong leadership capabilities. Ability to form effective relationships and achieve influence at the most senior level in the organization. Able to influence without authority.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management in the language of business.
  • Experience of creating, developing and leading a team. Strong leadership and management ability, developing and motivating people.
  • Understanding of the Group global strategies and collaborates with the business to accomplish these strategies.
  • Ability to make robust/tough decisions which may be contrary to the business wishes and ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk trends, both internally and externally.


Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
