Communications for Businesses and Markets (CBAM) is part of our People, Governance and Communications (PG&C) structure. This team designs and implements communications strategies to support HSBC’s business objectives in line with our values, and enhance / protect our reputation among key stakeholders. 

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head of Communications, Corporate and Institutional Banking Asia and Middle East

Role Purpose 

The role of HSBC’s Communications Businesses and Markets team is to protect and strengthen the bank’s reputation through communications strategies that help advance our customers’ goals and our own.

This role is focused on driving the business reputation and positioning of Corporate and Institutional Banking in Asia and the Middle East. The role holder leads the identification and execution of communications strategies to engage employees, media and wider stakeholder groups, aligned with the commercial priorities of the bank’s Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) business and the wider Communications Businesses and Markets strategy.

The role-holder is based in Hong Kong and reports functionally to the Head of Communications, CIB and at an entity level to the Head of Communications, Business and Markets, Asia and Middle East. Accountabilities include acting as the strategic communications advisor to the Head of Banking, Asia and the Middle East. The role also oversees communications business partnering for CIB’s business lines in the region (Global Payments Solutions, Global Trade Solutions, Markets and Securities Services, HSBC Infrastructure Finance and Sustainability, and Capital Markets and Advisory).

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaboration and partnership: Work seamlessly with colleagues across Communications Businesses and Markets and Group External Communications to develop and deliver a communications strategy that is aligned to CIB and HSBC’s commercial goals, values and purpose. The work should support HSBC to differentiate CIB on strategy and performance by communicating value for shareholders and colleagues. The role-holder will also work closely with business colleagues across CIB in Asia and the Middle East
  • Leadership: Oversee communications for CIB and Banking Asia and Middle East, leading a focused team of specialists and developing junior talent. The role holder should draw on impeccable influencing skills, executive presence and deep crisis and issues management experience
  • Drive a commercial, risk-oriented culture: Drawing on significant international banking communications and issues management experience, lead a team culture to deliver proactive and credible integrated communications plans for regional business lines, and regional media relations engagement

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Act as strategic communications advisor to Banking Asia and Middle East
  • Leadership of communications business partnering for regional business lines (GPS, GTS, MSS, HIF&S, CMA)
  • Oversee integrated communications plans for region-led campaigns and content, capabilities, strategic projects and changes
  • Oversee CIB-led media relations with regional Tier 1, trade and business media, in partnership with the CIB and Asia media relations teams
  • Management of communications teams in international and network markets across Asia
  • Identify and escalate reputation risks and develop the associated mitigation strategies to build/safeguard the reputation of HSBC
  • Maintain knowledge of stakeholder requirements, competitor activities and market trends to inform advice and direction in support of CIB’s regional business lines and HSBC
  • Contribute to the development of strategic communications planning, insight, measurement and reporting 

Leadership & Teamwork  

  • Develop strong relationships with regional business line executives and teams, key champions, advocates and colleagues to facilitate execution of communications plans
  • Ensure execution to world-class standards and share knowledge and best practice across the communications network
  • Stellar stakeholder management and influencing skills, with strong executive presence
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest industry trends, techniques and approach, and network with peers 
Requisitos

Functional Knowledge

  • Leadership management of a diverse team responsible for regional communications for CIB and Banking for Asia and the Middle East
  • Deep experience in communications business partnering across multiple, regional business lines
  • Experience in strategic communications development and associated measurement strategies
  • Experience in complex risks and issues management
