Job description

Job Purpose

  • To act as a trusted advisor to UK senior leadership, ensuring both the HSBC UK Business (Ringfenced Bank) and broader UK geography, meet its Inclusion priorities in line with HSBC Group commitments.
  • To influence and develop a multi-year UK inclusion strategy that demonstrates HSBC UK and broader UK business as an employer of choice, that is equipped to meet our business ambitions, breaking this down into annual action plans and articulating this to key stakeholders.


Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Develop, lead and execute the Bank’s UK inclusion strategy, ensuring alignment with Group and UK strategic objectives, Global and UK D&I priorities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Be a key member of both the Global Inclusion team and the UK People Leadership team – working collaboratively with peers and stakeholders in both teams to design and implement the Inclusion strategy across the UK geography.
  • Build and maintain effective senior stakeholder relationships, providing strategic counsel, thought leadership and partnership to ensure the UK organisation meets its Inclusion priorities.
  • Establish strong relationships with the UK Head of People, People Business Partners and People Business Consultants to drive forward Inclusion priorities. Oversee appropriate governance and oversight frameworks to effectively manage the work of the inclusion team and the ERG networks and ensure full adherence to audit requirements.
  • Partner with UK ERGs, ensuring continued strong alignment between UK and Global ERG communities, leveraging Global and UK best practice to maximise the impact of the networks.
  • Support with the designing and implementation of policies and procedures that promote diversity and inclusion, ensuring compliance with legislation (such as the Equality Act 2010) and working with partners such as Benefits and Wellbeing teams to support our colleagues.
  • Be responsible for designing and implementing large-scale, innovative Inclusion projects that address specific opportunities and challenges in the UK, leveraging volunteer talent coordinated into sprints and project teams. Collaborate with Learning and Talent teams to support with the upskilling of the UK population and attraction of a diverse pipeline of future talent.
  • Own a specific global Inclusion priority (age, gender, social mobility, ethnicity, disability or LGBT+) and be responsible for oversight of this priority globally as part of the Global Inclusion team.
  • Understand the specific regulatory issues/opportunities which impact the UK geography and the UK Business and work in partnership with business leaders and People Business Partners to proactively address. Engaging directly with the regulator when required, and respond to relevant consultations when agreed by the business.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting on progress towards HSBC’s Inclusion goals; supporting with meaningful data insights and storytelling to support recommendations and action with UK senior leaders.
  • Partner with UK communications teams to drive internal and external storytelling on the progress of core Inclusion priorities. 

Customer / Stakeholders

  • Act as a trusted advisor on Inclusion to the HSBC UK Operating Committee and other similarly senior stakeholders across UK geography Business and Infrastructure teams.  
  • Commercial Mindset - Work in partnership with the business to help define, drive and develop how D&I can support the commercial ambitions of the business including product development, product enhancement, procurement strategies and/or customer experience.
  • Partners with colleagues across the People function to understand challenges, problem solve and implement and monitor effective Inclusion solutions across the employee life cycle.
  • Establish strong relationships with relevant external organisations, industry bodies, NGOs and external campaign groups.
  • Represent HSBC at industry roundtables, conferences and other external events.

Leadership and Teamwork

  • Drive oversight of matrixed Business and People project teams responsible for delivering Inclusion activity.
  • Demonstrate leadership of the UK ERG network, maximising employee participation and benefit, whilst driving alignment to Global ERG practices. Drive the design and development of a robust governance and oversight framework to track progress of ERG activity across the UK.
  • Demonstrate an Inclusive approach to Leadership.

Operational Effectiveness and Control 

  • Align all Inclusion activity to the Group’s Inclusion Target Operating Model.
  • Act as an ambassador for Inclusion across the bank’s Inclusion ecosystem.

Management of Risk

  • The management of People risk, covering both the meeting of Inclusion goals and assessment and proactive management of emerging internal and external risks relating to Inclusion, is an integral part of the role and will include:
    • Understanding the specific regulatory issues/opportunities which impact the UK and broader HSBC Group Inclusion agenda.
    • Identifying and escalating key risks relating to Inclusion.
    • Lead audit-related activities including Management Action Plans.
    • Integrate Group Inclusion principles into UK policies and practices, including the ERG network.

Requisitos

Certifications, Qualifications and Experience

  • Exceptional relationship and stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrable track record of engagement and influencing at C-suite level on Inclusion strategy and plans.  
  • Adept at interpreting diversity-related data and legislation, and able to show how inclusion contributes to achieving benchmarks or targets.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, ideally adept at public speaking and presentation.
  • Writing Board and Operating Committee papers.
  • A proven track record of leading inclusion programmes that have tangible impact for the business.
  • Advanced influencing skills coupled with the ability to challenge and change mindsets. Tangible evidence of disrupting the norm but doing so backed by data and research.
  • Intellectual dexterity, curiosity and empathy to work with varying groups on sensitive topics where colleagues may have opposing views or interests.
  • Extensive HR or relevant business experience within fast-moving, complex and demanding corporate environments where operational diversity and inclusion issues have to be handled on a large scale.
  • Experience of strong participation in industry events / external round-tables with a recognized expertise on key inclusion topics or trends.
  • Ability to multitask and deal with ambiguity.
  • Experience of working effectively with colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Experience leading transformation and/or change programmes within diverse regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience of bringing thought leadership, challenge and collaboration to customer / commercial programmes that influence customer outcomes.
  • Demonstrate up to date knowledge of the external environment, the competitive landscape and broad macro-economic trends. Possess an understanding of how to use this knowledge to create competitive advantage and to think holistically about human capital and organisational culture.
  • A strong external network of D&I professionals, academics and thought leaders.
