It provides support to various business groups and the job involves data analysis, model and strategy development & implementation, Business Intelligence, reporting and data management
  • Global Business/Global Function (Ex: WPB, CMB, GRA etc.):
  • Global Risk Analytics is one of the key sub-functions within Global Risk providing analytics solutions and regulatory capital model support for Global Businesses in domains of wholesale credit risk, traded credit and market risk, treasury risk and operational risk. The function focuses on risk model development, monitoring, quantitative impact study, model maintenance and performs the role of 1st line of defense with respect to model risk.
  • Global Business/Global Function - Sub-Function (Ex: CDO, CCS, DDS,…) :
  • GAC GRA Traded, Treasury & Operational Risk Analytics team is a centrally managed team within GAC that is responsible for model development, model risk governance, monitoring performance, backtesting and define future action for all Regulatory Capital models (IMA and IMM) within Traded Risk business for HSBC. Traded risk models include: (1) Market Risk models;(2) Counterparty Credit Risk models;(3) Margin models;(4) Add-on models;(5) Economic Capital. The team is a critical part of First Line of Defense (FLoD) from Model Risk perspective and is essential in meeting Regulatory and Audit requirement for the business. The team is responsible for delivering several Regulatory reports.

Job Description:

Decision Sciences job family is structured to address business problems with quantitative solutions like building of predictive algorithms / forecasting / scenario simulations etc. Members of this Job Family are differentiated by their capability of converting a business problem into a quantitative construct, solve it with available statistical / mathematical methods (following the right rigour), engage with IT to implement and finally interpret the model outcomes in business language. The range of business problems may cover areas of business growth, improving customer experience, limiting risk exposure, capital quantification, enhancing internal business processes etc. They are required to, as necessary, embed agile & exploratory practices into their approach, justify the choice of appropriate methods to various internal and external reviewers. This talent group is expected to keep themselves apprised of latest developments and industry practices around emerging methodologies, techniques etc. and bring those in-house by applying them for better outcomes. A decision sciences job family member should be able to: -

  • Apply relevant analytical methods / algorithms to get actionable insights from HSBC's internal (both structured and unstructured) and external data sources
  • Partner with IT / Data Engineering teams to create deployment road-map
  • Provide actionable solutions with clear articulation of recommendations for the business stakeholders across geographies
  • Independently manage delivery of analytics projects by working with business partners across regions / geographies
  • Actively contribute in innovative analytical solutioning for improved business performance 

The position is of AVP/Lead AVP/ Sr. AVP, CrossRisk Traded Risk Analytics – Traded Risk Models and will functionally report into TRA Leads for Americas. This role is responsible to manage the full model implementation cycle (from design, implementation, monitoring to demise) of FRTB SA models for Americas. The jobholder will be located in Traded, Treasury & Operational Risk Analytics, GAC GRA in Bangalore, India

 List of Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform activities pertaining to First Line of defense based on the Model Risk Management Framework for FRTB SA models:
  • Support Model users
  • Model development based on best industry practice
  • Model validation 
  • Model calibration and monitoring
  • Assist the Risk steward functions in second line of defense activities
  • Participating in the model development cycle in conjunction with BAs and system owners
  • Model documentation in line with HSBC standards
  • Support Senior management in Model related activities in line with HSBC strategy
  • Support all governance forums by providing timely inputs and escalating issues when required.
  • Provide model risk expertise of Traded Risk Products of HSBC, working in conjunction with Product Controls, Front Office, Global Markets Operations and other support and control functions. 
  • Support the model reviews by IMR, Internal and external Audit as well as regulatory visits. Implement the findings in a timely manner.
  • Implementing global best practices related to traded risk management.
  • Housekeeping of Traded Risk relevant FIMs, policies, framework, Terms of Reference·      

Management of Risk/Internal Controls/Compliance:

  •  The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. 
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
Requisitos

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Skills/Experience Required: 

  • Strong quantitative background, with a degree (Masters/PhD preferred) in Statistics/ Econometrics/ Economics/Mathematical Science/Engineering/Finance
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in model development, model validation and model management.
  • Good understanding of pricing, valuation, VaR, derivative products; time series market data.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, Matlab etc.) in order to develop the models or making proof of concepts. 
  • Knowledge of numerical methods applied on these models is a definite advantage.
  • Working experience of Traded Risk models as part of model development or model validation team. 
  • Manage and train Junior staff.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, including within onshore / offshore team set-ups.
  • Ability to drive results in a limited time duration and handle constant work related pressure.
  • Knowledge and exposure to cloud analytics platform such as GCP, AWS Redshift, Azure etc. would be a plus but not mandatory
  • Enthusiasm for proactively seeking, exploring and developing use cases for new data and/or tools/wider industry trends

Additional Information /Specific Skills (If Any): 

Knowledge of mathematical concepts and stochastic calculus.
