HSBC operates four Business units: UK, HK, International Wealth and Premier Banking (iWPB) and Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB). These are supported by the bank’s Infrastructure teams including the Group Functions and the Group CIO organisation. Reporting to the Group CIO, Group Technology teams play a vital role in driving great experiences for customers and colleagues and enabling the bank's strategy.
Group Functions Technology (GFT) comprises circa 4,200 colleagues in globally distributed teams, who are dedicated to the delivery and operation of a wide range of technology solutions to support HSBC’s Group Functions.
Within GFT, Risk and Compliance Technology (R&C) is a key, mission orientated department of ~1500 staff focused on designing, building and operating key platforms in support of the Global Risk & Compliance and Global Risk & Compliance Functions.
This role will be based in Krakow and report to the Compliance Controls Value Stream Technology Lead. The Sub Value Stream Technology Lead for Data, Platforms and Integration is accountable for leading engineering teams that design, build, test, deploy and run secure, resilient and scalable technology capabilities across the product and service portfolio. The role partners closely with Regulatory Compliance stakeholders and Value Stream-aligned DevSecOps teams to translate business and regulatory priorities into engineerable product outcomes, with clear ownership across architecture, backlog, build, release, production and continuous improvement.
The role holder is responsible for ensuring production stability and service resiliency across the estate while maintaining a strong technology control environment aligned to HSBC standards and regulatory expectations. Acting as an engineering transformation leader, the SVS Tech Lead drives modern software delivery practices including Agile product delivery, DevSecOps, trunk-based development, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, observability, secure-by-design engineering, self-service and continuous improvement, improving time-to-market, operational efficiency and risk outcomes.
The role maintains a diverse stakeholder network spanning Global Regulatory Compliance leadership, Procurement, Regional Technology Leads, key vendors, Group Functions Technology, Infrastructure, and the wider HSBC Technology leadership cohort.
The role requires sufficient technical credibility to engage directly with engineers on architecture, code quality, APIs, data flows, deployment pipelines, resilience, operability and technical debt, and to challenge engineering decisions constructively to improve product, platform and service outcomes.
As the most senior leader in the CCVS and R&C Tech Team in Poland, the role holder will have Functional Leadership responsibilities for the CCVS Tech teams in-country and act as the Entity Leadership escalation point for all of R&C Tech in-country. Collaborating and connecting with local Tech Centre Leadership, R&C Tech Functional Managers in Poland and in other countries, the role-holder also retains a dotted-line of responsibility into the CIO, Risk and Compliance Technology.
Deliver the SVS book of work on time, meeting agreed milestones and outcomes.
Lead engineering teams delivering Data, Platform and Integration capabilities end-to-end (discovery, architecture, backlog shaping, build, test, deploy, production support, continuous improvement).
Embed Agile product delivery: outcome-led prioritised backlogs, effective sprint ceremonies, regular working-software demos, and continuous business feedback through Quarterly Review and Quarterly Planning Increment.
Drive modern engineering practices: trunk-based development, automated testing, CI/CD, deployment automation, infrastructure as code, observability and secure coding, enabling safe controlled production releases.
Provide hands-on engineering leadership—stay close to architecture and code to challenge decisions, remove blockers, and prevent over-complexity, technical debt and avoidable fragility.
Improve quality and flow through automation and bank-standard tooling (source control, CI/CD, test automation, monitoring, controls evidence and workflow automation), reducing manual effort and operational risk.
Establish “you build it, you run it” accountability for reliability, production observability, controls, automation, and continuous improvement of delivered services.
Ensure production stability and operational resilience by partnering with DevSecOps and service management SMEs to define, implement and continuously improve governance, controls and run practices.
Define, track and improve production OKRs and Service Management/Control KCIs; provide clear actions and ownership to address risk hotspots.
Lead effective incident response: timely escalation and stakeholder engagement for major incidents, and robust post-incident follow-up (RCA, lessons learned, preventative actions) with learning embedded across teams to reduce recurrence and recovery time.
Communicate engineering outcomes to Risk and Compliance stakeholders using working-software demos, transparent metrics and clear technical narratives, including trade-offs.
Align delivery and service management priorities to business strategy and model risk priorities to reduce toil and incident volume.
Build and manage strong relationships across Global Risk, Compliance, Procurement, regional technology teams, Infrastructure, Group Functions Technology, SMEs and wider HSBC Technology leadership; partner with R&C Technology leadership to deliver SVS Service Excellence outcomes.
Participate in relevant Communities of Practice to identify, adopt and scale best practices across service management, controls and operational resilience.
Support DevSecOps teams in managing key vendor relationships to meet performance, resilience and control obligations.
Create a diverse, inclusive and psychologically safe culture for the SVS and Poland teams, aligned to HSBC Values and “How We Lead” principles.
Build an engaging, continuous-improvement culture that strengthens service performance and makes Risk & Compliance Technology a destination for top talent.
