  • We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Vice-president -Reference Data Management.
  • The Reference Data Management Lead is responsible for the driving the strategy and run-time (Run the Bank) operation of the Reference Data product and services within Data and Analytics Office (DAO), part of Digital Business Services function.  Reference Data needs to be consistent across countries, geographies and the bank to ensure consistency and alignment. The role will require gaining of insight into internal/external customer needs and champion preferences in order to direct the product vision of what development teams within Technology is to build. Additionally, the Lead will assist in the championing of the product with internal stakeholders and ensures that the Reference Data product and supporting operating model(s)/processes are fit for purpose and reflect the needs of the customers.
    What you’ll do:

Principal Responsibilities

  • Driving the strategy and roadmap of the Reference Data Product that has been laid-out within DAO
  • Leading the Reference Data Product to ensure that it is a success—by ensuring that it offers a strong Reference Data value proposition to the users and that it creates the desired business benefits.
  • Accountable to drive the OKR to meet the agreed KPI
  • Day-to-day management of the work
  • Responsible for both BAU as well as the Change the Bank work.
  • Building the Project plan and clearly defining the role of business, Ops team, GDT & stakeholder contacts. Supervise the work and ensuring the activities are completed as per the schedule.
  • Lead and manage the overall Project team  - GDT, CTB, RTB, Vendors, LoB contacts, etc.
  • Prioritize the work and make amends to the plans basis the ask from the leadership.
  • Identify, analyse and manage potential risks
  • Communicating the progress of the project as well as any exigencies from time to time.
  • Managing reports and documentations
  • Support and work closely with the Product Owner, particularly to represent Reference Data within the Future State Architecture (FSA) discussions/ framework
  • Engage in discussions on co-design opportunities with global businesses/ functions
  • Provide inputs for the quarterly planning of the Reference Data product so that senior management have a clear idea of the delivery path
  • Providing support in delivering value to the business, engaging with the customer to ensure the team is building the correct product by undertaking demos of enhanced product features to stakeholders/business users
  • Articulating the Reference Data product vision of what is to be built, and conveys that vision to the agile software development team
  • Identify and lead enhancements of the Reference Data product, challenging project managers, scrum masters to gain business benefit as early as possible
  • Working with the Technology team to drive improvements in productivity through backlog management, maturity in the use of Agile methodologies (e.g. Safe, Scrum, Kanban, Lean), and corresponding management of dependencies.
  • Participate and help drive the use of data quality measures, data movement and data use controls in the reference data space
  • Identify and promote opportunities for centralised reference data across HSBC
  • Collaborates with the team to showcase the Reference Data product to stakeholders
  • Interacts with and fully understands internal customers and their needs relating to Reference Data and create Roadmaps to deliver these changes for the Products/Solutions
  • Assists in communication with business stakeholders, resolving conflicting stakeholder priorities
  • Assist with the management, monitoring and reporting of progress, issues, dependencies and risks to the programme management, internal stakeholders and/or steering committees.
  • Develop and manage the Operational Models for the Run-the-Bank activities for reference Data so that they are fitting to serve the needs of HSBC
  • Develop and enhance the Run-the-Bank KPIs
  • Lead and manage the team, across geographies, identify and work with the team in upskilling to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest data analysis techniques and tools
  • Is aware of related industry trends pertaining to data and Reference Data, distilling this knowledge and sharing with the wider team
  • Is aware of Cloud based systems, how they operate and is able to use/guide others in their use
    Operational Effectiveness and Control
  • Adherence to Group policies, audit, controls, and compliance requirements including, but not limited to normal controls.
  • Continually assess the operational risks inherent in the processes, taking account of changing operating procedures, staff movements, legal and regulatory requirements, management restructures, and the impact of new technology
  • Monitoring and implementing process reviews and developing risk mitigation plans.
  • Ensure satisfactory audit ratings.
  • Alignment and integration with data sharing and data provisioning frameworks
    Leadership and Teamwork
  • Cascades business strategy and operational goals gaining commitment
  • Guides and supports management team through periods of change
  • Provides clear direction and sets performance targets for the tea,
  • Pre-dominant specialist may oversee and support senior specialists
  • Optimize the day-to-day operational processes to run the Group Data Utility

  • Ensure staff retention through an appropriate rewards strategy, staff management and development, and career progression
  • Drive staff development through training, development plans and performance management
  • Motivate team performance and develop staff knowledge to enhance quality
  • Promote effective communication with team members on strategy, objectives and key goals required for the respective roles and responsibilities
  • Collaboration with wider data management functional areas to drive data quality, governance and data sourcing improvements
    Major Challenges
  • Maintaining a high level of engagement with consumers (operational systems and direct users), balancing the business demands against efficiency and quality targets
  • Managing the business readiness of a global platform, utilizing multiple capabilities, components and deadlines, including external regulatory deadlines as required
  • Providing pro-active service changes as required without impacting the BAU process
  • Supporting the delivery of the TOM during high levels of business change and technical implementations
  • Delivering significant cost saving to the business through increased data quality and effective use of external data, across all LoBs
    Integrating and aligning with the Future State Architecture (FSA) framework and drive consumer adoption within a multi-faceted change environment
    Role Context
  • HSBC is going through changes with its move to a leaner and efficient organization.  The role holder needs to understand the impact of all these changes on the Reference Data Assets and support the change accordingly.
  • There is requirement to integrate and align with the Future State Architecture (FSA).
  • Partnering with XLoB stakeholders across Group Data, CMB, GB, WPB, Global IT and Data Services to drive consumer adoption, development & enhancements of the platforms/ assets, etc.
  • The goal is to make Reference Data Hub (RDH), the new data platform, as the golden source for Reference Data. Hence, the role holder needs to enable the migration of the data assets from the legacy platforms (ESR, BCDU, local systems, etc)
  • Oversight of the Group Data standards, use cases and the build of fit-for-purpose data assets
  • The role holder will be required to interact with many internal and external parties at the highest level of management and therefore needs an outstanding level of professionalism and gravitas
  • Geographic coverage of Reference data spans across the HSBC enterprise (Global)
Requisitos

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Proven experience of at least 10 years in general data management and master data management
  • Experience of working with Reference data.
  • Proven experience in delivering change projects using agile delivery methodologies at scale
  • Experienced in outlining a vision, strategy and roadmap for product development
  • Significant experience working in a commercial bank, global banking & markets or financial services industry
  • Awareness of industry data standards (eg ISO, NACE) and data policies
  • Experience of managing budgets and staff both offshore and onshore
  • Structured analytical problem-solving skills, able to breakdown complex problems and find solutions and options.
  • Knowledge of business analysis, requirements engineering, product backlog management, structured analysis and process mapping
    Strong research, analysis and policy or report writing skills are essential
  • Strong leadership skills evidenced by achievement of objectives with strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and respond to changing and varied demands. Recognise and act upon timely escalation of issues.
  • Experience in managing delivery across multiple areas - RTB, CTB, IT, data and transformation functions.
  • Experience of Project / Change management – confident in challenging business processes.
  • Ability to build and maintain relations with business units and deliver services through management of quality measurement tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels across the Group
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Strong people skills, operating effectively in teams
