Principal responsibilities
- Effective management and oversight of Financial Accounting and Balance Sheet Substantiation control environment.
- Develop good understanding of different source booking systems like Treats, OBS etc. along with interlinkages with HUB, FTP and all the way to Saracen disclosures to appreciate the impact end to end and challenge stakeholders / peers across regions to enable improvements from control mindset
- To continually reassess the operational risks, taking account of operating procedures and practices, changes to accounting standards, people risk (capacity and capability) and the impact of new technology.
- Govern and review processes to drive standardization across FA including EUCs, BCP, PLAs, KPIs etc.
- Pro-active and innovative approach to process improvement
- Lead/manage forums for discussion, alignment and decision-making on Group Financial Accounting and Balance Sheet Substantiation controls including deficiencies, issues and audit points. Also ensure timely and effective closure / remediation of open issues / actions.
Impact on Business
- The incumbent will be responsible for leading accounting processes supporting FTP sites in FinOps
- Deliver a well-controlled GL close and Reporting process under Group/Local Requirements for the entities in scope.
- Provide expert judgement on new product due diligence (NPDD) and GSM related initiatives, representing FA team on cross department / function technical discussions.
- Be responsible for reviewing and monitoring adequacy of internal controls in the process.
- Review of the critical deliverables of the process in Period end close & Reporting.
- SME in closure of books per IFRS
- Support the Leads in implementing Changes driven by Regulatory/New reporting requirements and also drive other projects which may come.
- Work with the In-country leads for driving the country/entity specific projects at FinOps.
- Proactively manage and provide guidance to the FinOps team for managing and resolving process issues.
- Identify opportunities for process re-engineering / improvement and drive changes independently
- Be responsible for the implementation of effective control/risk/compliance management mechanisms within scope of responsibility.
- Ensure robust control environment for Financial Accounting processes that deliver Ledger integrity, accurate and timely Financials and Reporting which can be used for all downstream reporting activities, for the operating entities of the Group
- This includes responsibility for ensuring control for new requirements/projects to support onboarding of control effective processes
- Works jointly with Financial Controller Leads across Regions and the legal entity teams to ensure that the processes are SOX complaint, reflecting accepted regulatory policy and standards with transparent and robust control procedures that withstand internal and external scrutiny
- Coordinate with Internal Audit and Assurance team for delivery of high quality review and assurance
- Works closely with Control Office and others within Finance to plan and implement Control and Governance expectations
- Ensure effective management and oversight of the Group Financial Accounting and Balance Sheet Substantiation control environment
- Drive standardization and consistency across Financial Accounting regarding Controls in Helios and ensure recorded controls mirror with the controls executed
- Support change and transformation agenda like Journal Automation, process standardization etc.
Operational Effectiveness and Controls
- Ensure adherence to Group policies, audit, controls, and compliance requirements including but not limited to declaration of secrecy, data protection act, health, safety and security, information security, clear desk policy etc.
- Ensure proactive controls in place to highlight issues timely.
- Deliver year on year efficiency
- Ensure optimum utilization of resources and plan for peak load volumes
- Manage the Operational Risk
- Maintain cross training for all critical deliverables.
- Ensures controls/procedures are designed effectively and operate robustly such that they meet internal and external audit and regulatory expectations
- Anticipate, identify and mitigate operational risk in an appropriate, cost effective manner
- Ensure that activities and processes are embedded into the SOX and operational risk frameworks
- Continually drive Standardization and effectiveness within the team, eliminating wastage.
- Participation in Operational Risk Assessment carried out as appropriate.
- Demonstrated using well-designed operating metrics in an efficient and transparent manner
- Audits demonstrate compliance with internal policies and procedures
- Embed workflow tool to develop and monitor key metrics
- Oversight and management of activities to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial information within the general ledger
- Ensuring financial accounting information is IFRS/local GAAP compliant with robust controls performed to assure completeness and accuracy.
- Work closely with other global processes and in-country financial controllers to identify and implement required accounting impact of new products, corporate transactions, reporting/disclosure requirements (i.e. ensuring accounting principles/definitions are applied accurately)
- Identify opportunities and drive change across FTP sites to ensure efficiencies and enhancements of processes and controls can be achieved.
- Experience of working in Banking/Financial services organization of repute will be an advantage.

Functional Knowledge
- Deep knowledge and understanding of financial accounting, ideally in banking industry, minimum of 20+ years working within Financial Services
- Good understanding of financial products and how associated accounting, and more generically the banking business, balance sheet and income statement.
- Understanding of control frameworks and how to implement effective controls in practice.
- Skilled in handling and controlling operational processes
- Strong ability to anticipate, identify and mitigate risks and apply appropriate controls over production processes
- Deep experience of a range of operational processes across the breadth of financial services environment
- Track record of leading change in the context of complex environment
- Good problem solver with well-developed analytical skills
- Experience of delivering to multiple internal and external stakeholders such as external auditors, regulators, audit committees, businesses, etc. and ability to successfully navigate a matrix structure
- Ability to manage multiple and, at times, conflicting objectives, prioritizing effectively
- Proven ability to influence at senior levels across functions, geographies and businesses
