Our services are offered both online and offline in more than 60 countries and territories worldwide. We specialise in foreign exchange, credits and rates, structured derivatives, equities and debt, equity and equity-linked capital markets.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Associate Director, Regional Markets Treasury.
Principal Responsibilities
Markets Treasury (MKTY) sits at the heart of HSBC and acts as the Street-facing arm of the Treasury function (which responsible for setting the risk limits and strategy in respect of HSBC’s balance sheet). MKTY covers over 45 HSBC sites worldwide spanning the various Group balance sheets, providing input into each local ALCO and liaises extensively with Asset, Liability and Capital Management (ALCM). MKTY is managed by the Global Head, the Regional Heads for EMEA, Asia Pacific and the Americas and the Global COO (collectively referred to as the “MKTY ExCo”).
The key responsibilities the Markets Treasury business include:
- Managing cash, liquidity and funding for legal entities together with the bank’s overall high-quality liquid assets (HQLA), and short-term funding requirements
- Managing the non-trading interest rate positions (banking book) transferred from ALCM to the functions
- Generating stable revenues by optimising return on interest rates and HQLA
- Management of the market risks resulting from the term interest rate buy-in and the Liquid Asset Buffer (LAB) with a view of optimising revenues but not at the expense of liquidity
- Governance and contribution of major Benchmark Rates for the Group (this is sites dependent)
- Participating in advocating and building effective governance structures, processes and controls in meeting Group standards
- Key in helping to manage regulatory, liquidity, interest rate and funding risk whilst ensuring the business operates with the confinements of the agreed risk appetite and in full compliance with all Group and Regulatory requirements
- Ensuring MKTY senior management / ExCo are kept informed of all key financial / non-financial issues / developments impacting the business / entity / region by way of acting as a key point of escalation / contact and if required, play a critical part in any subsequent remediation efforts
- Degree holder, preferably with a professional qualification
- Highly analytical background with track record of producing quality analysis, strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail are a must
- Strong computer skills (such as VBA, Python) with the ability to develop and maintain robust models
- Excellent team player with proactive and self-motivated attitude and ability to think and act independently. This is very critical
- Excellent communication skills to deal with an extremely diverse set of stakeholders across complex issues and narratives
- A broad knowledge of and interest in financial markets and economics
- Product knowledge including Fixed Income, IR derivatives, Cross currency swaps, FX swaps
- Fundamental understanding of banking issues - capital, liquidity, funding, structural interest rate risk
