We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Director, Data & Analytics Chief Controls Office, HK, ASP, MENAT.

Role purpose

Data Risk is one of the Banks highest priorities and there is increasing regulatory scrutiny.  Significant improvements are required with commitments made to HSBC executive and externally.  The role of Group DAO is critical to the execution of strategic and consistent control improvements and Chief Control team for DAO are a key partner to achieve success.  

The CCO team plays an important role in enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite, by ensuring efficient and effective risk and control management.  We do this by providing operational risk and control expertise, conducting high quality reviews of the bank's control environment, conducting end to end control assurance reviews on key controls, maintaining robust risk governance focused on material risk and issues, and evolving a culture of continuous and consistent risk management.

The Director, Data & Analytics Chief Controls Office, HK, ASP, MENAT is part of GCIO CCO, and will report into the Global Head of Chief Control Office DAO.

Role purpose is to support the Global Head of CCO DAO across aspects of the global team, with specific leadership and focus in HK business, ASP and MENAT.

  • CCO ASP/MENAT Leadership Team
  • DAO ASP Leadership Team 

Local and global DAO Risk & Control Management Meetings or Data Councils.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Provide critical leadership and engagement between global and HK, ASP, MENAT CCO and DAO teams
  • Develop and manage stakeholder relationships with CCO DAO and respective Regions and key markets, including c-suite stakeholders
  • Act as trusted advisor for the Executive and Senior Management of the supported remit area and constructively challenge how their operational risk is managed and all items related (Risk assessments, Control environment, issues management 
  • Deliver key messages and strategic updates as appropriate for Regions and key markets
  • Promote accountable risk and control decision-making based on quality data and commercial analysis, actively challenging poor, inefficient or excessive controls, related tasks and behaviours
  • Drive consistent and insightful reporting and escalation of identified issues 
  • Oversight of emerging risks, strategic business initiatives and local change activity
  • Provide specialist risk and control knowledge and insights, leading efforts to continuously improve the control environment and monitoring of risk, including behaviours
  • Identify trends to anticipate future developments in the risk and control environment  
  • Actively challenge poor, inefficient or excessive controls, related tasks and behaviours   
  • Influence and shape the development and implementation of future-fit risk management and regulatory frameworks
  • Influence and shape the development of regulatory frameworks in collaboration with internal parties 
  • Provide Executive and Senior Management with updates on any relevant changes to policy or projects related to operational risk that have an impact on their area of responsibility. 
  • Liaise with stakeholders across CCO and DAO to proactively identify and resolve challenges to deliver objectives
  • Lead by example, demonstrate core behaviour and values including professionalism, teamwork, focus, drive and determination, promoting desired behaviours and a positive risk culture
  • Leading ad hoc programmes supporting key CCO and wider GCIO initiatives

Leadership & Teamwork  

  • Effectively manage stakeholder relationships across HK, ASP and MENAT, CCO DAO, 2Lod, 3Lod, DAO and CCO communities
  • Contribute to the overall CCO and DAO Strategy to drive increased value to the business 
  • Track record of influencing diverse, multi skilled teams outside of direct line management to work together to deliver required results
Requirements

Functional Knowledge

  • Strong leadership background with a proven track-record of managing wide range of diverse stakeholders
  • Broad understanding and the practical application of the Non-Financial Risk framework in 1LoD environment 
  • Experience in performing risk and control reviews
  • Must have a strong technical knowledge in at least one area of data risk and controls i.e. privacy, retention, management and security
  • Proven experience in a risk/audit or control related role
  • Proven track record of increasing business performance i.e. developing, aligning and translating strategies & plans to achieve business and functional goals
  • Negotiating skills to manage right outcomes for CCO and DAO across a diverse set of GB/GF’s, senior stakeholders and lines of defence often with competing objectives
  • Comprehensive understanding of HSBC structures, processes and objectives across the Group would be desirable.
  • Ideally has experience in global, regional and market roles
  • Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in simple language to support problem analysis
  • Proven project management experience with an ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience in writing and presenting board papers
  • Previous background of working in a matrix organization structure; ability to persuade individuals at different levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to succeed within a matrix management structure and build and maintain regional team relationships
  • Ability to engage with team, colleagues and business partners collaboratively to deliver at pace
  • Ability to work well under pressure, demonstrate flexibility and adapt to rapidly changing priorities and tasks that are potentially highly restricted in nature, unpredictable, wide ranging, complex and time-sensitive
