Global Internal Audit provides independent, objective assurance to management and the risk and audit committees as to whether the framework of risk management, control, and governance processes, as designed and represented by management, is adequate and functioning.
We are currently seeking an individual to join Global Internal Audit Model Risk team in the role of Model Risk Audit Manager. The job holder should have an appreciation of risks arising from models affecting the HSBC in Continental Europe and the UK. They should be able to give credible and effective evaluations of the design and operation of controls that the bank use to manage risks and should be comfortable presenting conclusions to senior audit and business management. The job holder will also contribute to ongoing continuous monitoring activities and the development of new audit practices within the function such as data analytics and process mining. Model Risk covers the model development, implementation and usage of Models and Deterministic Quantitative Methodologies (DQMs).
What you’ll do
• Perform Continuous Monitoring of the business and external environment to identify emerging risks that may require a change of Model Risk audit focus.
• Lead and support Model Risk audits to identify key risks that are not adequately controlled, support business/functions and consider their options to efficient and effective controlling these risks.
• Based on audit fieldwork, draft audit findings which articulate the issues and risks succinctly and accurately identify the root causes.
• Ensure that the results and documentation of audit work meets the required internal standards and expectations of external stakeholders such as regulators.
• Monitor and validate Model Risk Audit Issues to ensure that the root cause of control weakness have been remediated by the business.
• Effectively communicate with key stakeholders, and timely deliver the audit objectives.
• Contribute to and support the development of new auditing tools via data analytics.
• Help the Model Risk team and Global Internal Audit generally to become more effective and efficient.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
• A master’s degree or higher in a quantitative subject or evidence of a very solid understanding of advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence, general statistical modelling principles, techniques, applications, data issues, economic intuition behind models and the associated practical modelling risks.
• Experience and aptitude in a number of technical areas, such as credit risk modelling, Basel internal rating system development, Financial Crime Compliance models, Operational Risk modelling, financial mathematics, derivatives, analysis of market risk, econometric modelling, stress testing, scenario analysis, and actuarial modelling.
• At least 2 years of work experience in financial services, with deep knowledge or one or more businesses and products in which models are developed or applied: e.g., front-office trading desks, bank risk functions, risk consulting and insurance actuary.
• An understanding of major global regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
• Strong spoken and written English.
• Desirable to have a familiarity with common analytical software packages such as Python, Visual Basic, SQL, SAS, R, and/or Matlab.
• Have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously such as concurrent planning, fieldwork, or documentation for two (sometimes three) audits.
